QPR quite often make a bit of a rod for their own back with things like this.
If it hadn't been publicised, and trumpeted, and hyped to try and make our new manager look good and innovative when he arrived, would we even know who Harry Watling is, or what he does?
They've done it in the past with things like hiring of scouts when they thought it would go down well with the fans - Penrice, Mel Johnson returning - and, again, all that happens is if some of the signings turn out to be crap people go "well what's he fcking doing" and if relationships change or sour (as they did with penrice) then you have to do a story about them leaving, when in reality at most clubs scouts come and go all the time and nobody's got any fcking idea who they are.
You've publicised we've hired a set piece coach. Everybody knows who he is. Our set piece defending remains absolutely disastrous, and without Johansen our attacking ones are crap as well. So now the bloke is on the hook and in the firing line, when in reality at most clubs you wouldn't know who he is or what he does.

Does act as a bit of a deflection for Beale though - almost as if its not his department. Maybe a bit cynical though!

Steve Black (RIP) the confidence coach was another one of those who was publicised as being the brains behind the Play off success. Then we signed him up permanently and the team went to sh*t again. Steven Caulker preferred to source his courage from other means.

and tbf, you can tell from Mick Beale's post match that the players HAVE been told.
Classic example of 'when they cross the white line'
TBF in the still on the offy there are 5 players around their player when he scores the 2nd, bit of a fluke that - but of course we should have won the first header - something we couldn't manage much at all last night.
Never worked out why all clubs, not just us, don't vary the corner kicker every now and then.
OK Illy mate you're having a bad night , hitting the first man 9/10, lets give someone else a go.

Illy had the ball so much, sometimes it seemed as if he was the only player we had. And yet…..we've been crowing about how many different players have scored. Nobody is happy about this, I hope they can start off like men possessed and hammer Coventry…Stroud notwithstanding.

Genuine question on defending wide free kicks, as we have obviously failed to do this 3 times in the last 2 matches. Is setting up with a high defensive line the best way to do this?
Nearly all teams use this system, presumably to either catch attackers offside and/or provide space in front of the keeper to come and collect the cross. However, for me there is a major flaw if the delivery is good. Defenders are running back towards their own goal which makes clearing headers difficult, whereas forwards are able to attack the ball. Also it's difficult for officials to spot offsides or attacking fouls (e.g Bartley's push on Balogun) due to all the bodies being in a narrow space and generally they tend to err on the attacking side (probably less of an issue with VAR).
Would a better alternative not be to set up deeper either zonal and/or man-marking as per defending corners? At least then, defenders would be facing the right way for clearing headers & I think we do this much better than we defend free-kicks (Dykes in particular does this well). I'd be interested to hear what others think.

They didn't really trumpet it, they just announced it. And a few weeks ago it was hailed even on here as a good thing as we started keeping clean sheets and had scored more than any other team from set pieces. Maybe, just maybe, three of our four CBs rotating through injury and one being 34 and perhaps tiring after having to play every game might have a *tiny* bit more to do with it than a set piece coach, who is probably doing and saying the right things.
Bare bones.

Personally, I'm all for this 'naming' (and if needed shaming) of Rs staff - football needs a hell of a lot more transparency and accountability to its fans, i.e. paying customers. In any other professional walk of life, it wouldn't be an issue. It's absolutely ridiculous that, after however many years it is at the club now, we're all still more than a little in the dark about what Les does and what input our overrated CEO has on recruiting/firing managers, leaving aside the eternal mystery of the water pressure in the Stanley Bowles bogs. Football 'clubs' operate more like cults, and too many fans play the role of suckers.
Let's go further - give the guy a platform/interview so he can explain what he's trying to do (not in too much detail, obviously), what his background is, and how he rates his contribution so far. Why not?
'Judge not that ye be judged', you say? Christian bollox, says I.

I did wonder when and how our defending at set pieces would become Lee Hoos’ fault so thanks for that.

Beale cracked on about it a lot in his interviews at the start of the season. He’s learning as he goes, I bet he wouldn’t do that again.
