Added Time at the WC 16:07 - Nov 25 with 3693 viewsPinnerPaul

Forgive me, too lazy to trawl through the WC thread and hopefully the topic warrants a separate thread.

How do we feel about the (apparently Collina) edict that all time lost must be allowed for?

Certainly, seen a lot more time added on than we are used to in our domestic matches.

Admit I haven't seen many full 90's so interested to know what others think about the amounts being added?

Thanks all

This is good but won't happen domestically. If it did it would cut out all the time wasting and fake injuries. In addition you would get 90 minutes of play for your money.

Think it's great. Obviously, we've all seen that time-wasting is the norm in the Championship, so anything that addresses that is a good thing. Also, nice to see that manhandling attacking players (even removing their shirts) at corners might lead to the odd penalty.

Of course, once the world's attention is averted from Qatar, I have little confidence that the refs in our league will have the intelligence, inclination or initiative to do the same.

It's been brilliant like most of the officiating so far. One thing you cant fault FIFA on is that they'd seen a growing trend in time wasting and straight off the bat done something about it.

A couple of VAR inconsistencies but with the referres themselves its been such a refreshing watch. Makes our EFL officiating look like little league.

it's been fantastic, would love to see this done in domestic football

Seems to have cut down time wasting as well as it's clearly not going to work as they just add it on.

Its been great . I would love to see it in our league . Not for night games though or there is a danger of not getting the last pint of the night at Liverpool St before my train goes.

These officials are supposed to be the best in the world. We haven’t even got the best in our country.

It's been good and by and large I think the few teams that have tried to waste time have suffered as a result. However, I agree with the earlier comment that our officials are unlikely to have the balls to do the same and even if they do, then they won't do anything about players rolling around, taking an age to re-start etc during the 8 or 9 minutes that get added on.

That should be down to their new boss - Mr Howard Webb - of course it won't, as I've said before, it will be down to the clubs, as ever.

We could see the first three hour football game at Loftus road especially if Preston come here
and score in the first minute!!

The minutes added in this WC certainly rhyme a lot better with the minutes lost in the two halves, far far better than they do in the Championship. For me the Championship need to fix their added time measures, because the current way is causing time wasting in almost every game, often starting in the first half whenever one team takes a 1 goal lead.

The standard of refereeing is the main problem in the championship. It’s appalling and until they sort it out the problems will remain . It’s destroying the game.

To prove my point above, saw a story a few days ago where the PREMIER LEAGUE, note that's the PREMIER LEAGUE, NOT PGMOL, say they will not be adopting of the WC policy towards added time.

As I've said before, at the top levels its what the clubs want that gets actioned, not what the referees want.

You know my view. It is a bloody godsend.

A simple example that the laws of the game are there and life is simple if they are followed.

The "refs" at our level just don't even do these basics right.

Interesting that is has tailed off somewhat though - maybe these edicts just don't last as no-one re-imposes them on an ongoing basis?

By the way, generally the standard of reffing at this WC is exactly what is should be. Yes, a couple of VAR aberrations, but generally much more like the basic level the game demands.

Just re-enforces how crap Champ officials are...

Can we go out yet?

I think it’s been very welcome. Would love to see shirt-pulling/wrestling clamped down on properly. My son’s eight - you go over the park and all his mates are pulling shirts and wrestling at corners. Same for wiping out opponents on the break. Not sure we need that much cynicism in kick-abouts down the park. 100% the influence of professional footballers and commentators. Does my head in!

Fulham FC: It's the taking part that counts

would love to see the time added on (and on) although not sure how the guy in the baseball cap a few rows in front of me will be able to cope as he tends to leave a minute or so before the end no matter what.

I'm sure he has good reason to do so.

What time does the last train leave from Preston?

Just watched the end of the South Korea V Ghana incredible game and when Anthony Taylor who played 10.30 extra time did not allow a SK corner it got ugly .The Korean manager got in his face and verbally abused him (got a well deserved red card ) but continued to berate him until he was escorted off.Should be a huge ban enforced here IMO.
Taylor allowed 30 seconds or so over the time posted so he was under no obligation to allow the corner or was he .Thoughts !!!

Ref was right, can't keep giving them more time, they'd had 10 minutes

Is that why the Korean boss was so angry?I saw him moaning at the ref but I missed the end of the match and didn’t know the reason.

Paul, you are right on that. This is the saddest thing about modern football. The governing bodies are impotent as they are terrified of their members instead of doing what is right for the game.

Enforce the laws should be the ask. Don't worry if this leads to multiple sending off or long games; just do it and do it consistently...

Obviously a no brainer
But
How’s this for a thought?
When it comes to the knock out stage when there’s bound to be lots of extra time, prior to penalties, we could be looking at 15 mins added time onto the original ninety, plus 5 more on the extra 30, giving total game time of 2 hours 20 minutes!
Can the players actually do that? Imagine all the cramp etc ( which makes it even longer)
Should make for interesting viewing..and don’t forget the inevitable penalties at the end.
