Always difficult to compare players from different era's. Also have to take into consideration the level they played at for us. My top 10 (in reverse order)
There's been a Rodney or Stanley debate among Rs fans for well over 40 years. Even though I'm a Rodney man, I was delighted to see Ellerslie Road named after Stanley.
I'd guess age might largely determine the ranking in this thread. If you grew up watching any of these players you'd probably have them highest on the list.
Special mention of Taarabt who I think was probably the most skillful of them all.

As you say, it depends on the era. I do think it's much harder now for a number ten as the game has become tighter and no. 10's have 3 or 4 players on them when they get the ball in dangerous positions these days. I know Stan and Rodney were totally intuitive and left defenders flat-footed but there is no way that they would be as successful in the modern era as they were in their day.

I am a Bowles man purely because Marsh was slightly before my time but, without Marsh, I doubt we would have the QPR we have today so, as I have mellowed with age, I have to plump for Marsh!
Marsh played in a brilliantly entertaining team that won our only trophy and got us from the third to first division in the late 60's.
Bowled played in another brilliant team in the first division in the period 1973-76. The amount of goals we scored in these two periods was exceptional when you consider our lamentable goal scoring capabilities now. Generally football has gone much more defensive since these golden periods in our history.
Tarrabt was superb but mainly in one championship season. Others like Stainrod and Byrne were excellent but tempered by opponents complaining the plastic pitch they played on gave them an advantage as defenders more wary of the surface to tackle them.

Should be interesting to see other people's views on this!!
I think you nailed it with that order.
Close call for number one and I was lucky enough to see both Rodney & Stan play in the hoops. However Stan wins it for me as he was a much better team player and a simply wonderful character. Watching him play for us was the pinnacle of my QPR supporting career.

Rodders for me.Was here for his most memorable goal.
Marsh Bowles The Rest.
Though I preferred Stan. Maybe down to greater media exposure for Bowles, that I'd see him at Wembley dogs, or all the madcap stuff we kept getting told about him. Also, I'd moved on from nipper to teenager and was just more aware of players and their personalities. Regularly hear / heard Rodney on the radio, he's still an entertaining bloke, likes a laugh.
Whilst watching QPR for me it's Wegerle. There was a section on him during Saint & Greavsie one Saturday afternoon that stuck in my mind when they were touting him as an option for Graham Taylor's England. I remember his interview and him saying he was open to all options in international football. Obviously GT went for someone else sub par and he never got the call. 1990/91 the Euro 92 campaign, considering Gazza was long term injured, how bollocks was that?

From the days of Rodney putting on the #10 shirt, there has been a culture of handing it to the most entertaining player on the team. As such, there is an honour, responsibility and indeed pressure bestowed on the lucky recipient at the beginning of the season.
Rodney and Stanley will always be the benchmarks. Nobody will ever eclipse them. Many have failed miserably. Can someone please explain why Warnock gave it to Jay Bothroyd? Or why Redknapp gave it to Tom Carroll, who didn't score a goal all season in 2013/14 while wearing it?

Weirdly I remember that as it was filmed by Barnes Pond near where I lived and fell in once. Also met Wegerle in Asda in Roehampton and got him to sign the only bit of paper i had on me which was my mum's shopping list. Wegerle prob my fav number 10 , than maybe John Byrne then Taraabt?. But yeh... Bowles , Marsh the Kings.

Rodney had amazing ball control a great shot and could leave any defender flat-footed. But he was pretty slow and would get dizzy if he ever set foot over the half-way line.
Stan had almost comparable skills but was much more of a complete team-player.
I wonder if any club has ever two number 10s in succession with the skills, and eccentricity, that those two had? They defined the club character of QPR for over a generation.

Kev Gallen dropped into that role effectively and I’d also give Martin Rowlands a shout as a half ten half seven role
For me Adel the standout though. It’s such a shame his star didn’t burn brighter and longer after his time with us. Truly the most mesmerising player I’ve seen consistently for us. Eze was getting there - pure silk.
Oddly though, if you asked me who was the most skilful player I’ve seen in the hoops, it wouldn’t be a number 10. Step forward my all time QPR hero the magician Clive Wilson. What a player. An absolute scandal he didn’t get a string of international honours. Losing him was as big as losing Sir Les at the time; I was gutted when he left. Apologies for going off an tangents there!!!
Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Has to be Rodney Marsh for me, not only a very talented footballer but a great entertainer. I'm just very sorry that many of you never had the chance to watch him he was very special and that Rodney chant lifted everyone.
