No1 No1 18:59 - Feb 22 with 2333 views | Myke | Phil Parkes got me thinking who is the favourite QPR keeper of the last 50 years? Springett, Parkes, Roberts, Hucker (my 2nd fav), Harper, Seaman, Day, Stejskal, Green (err...) or Smithies - probably left out a few too.

Always Parkes. Smithies is getting there, already number 2.

No1 No1 on 19:53 - Feb 22 with 1818 views | BrianMcCarthy | Too young to remember Parkes objectively, though he was a hero of mine. So - Seaman, then Stejskal. Smithies is very close to Stejskal, very close I think Smithies reminds me a lot of Seaman in that his positioning is excellent so most of his saves tend to be one-on-ones where the ball hits his body. It's not as spectacular as the type of goalie who acrobatically saves with his gloves while staying on the line eg Grobelaar but it's better goalkeeping. Hard to remember from memory but I will try and rank the three of them:- 1) Positioning - Seaman, Smithies, Stejskal 2) Handling - Stejskal, Seaman, Smithies 3) One-on-ones - Seaman, Smithies, Stejskal 4) Shot-stopping in close - Stejskal, Seaman, Smithies 5) Agility/refelexes/rebounds - Seaman, Stejskal, Smithies 6) Aerial - Seaman, Smithies, Stejskal 7) Distribution - Smithies, Stejskal, Seaman 8) Organising - Seaman, Smithies, Stejskal 9) Set-pieces - Smithies, Stejskal, Seaman

No1 No1 on 21:50 - Feb 22 with 1692 views | paulparker | Seamen was good here but his positioning on free kicks and kicking left a lot to be desired He definitely went up a few notches when he went to Arsenal though Big Jan was good loved his throws to the half way line , I was at the Norwich game for his debut and he had a stinker I think the headline in the sun was dud check Chris day for me was a brilliant signing some of his saves in the 2002 season were of smithies quality , so for that reason and the last minute Gordon banks esq save against Oldham I will go for him And yes I remember Nicky johns , Paul Barron was also dog sh1t
| And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot
That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles

I think that Johns and Roberts played in back-to-back matches in Dec '97, Roberts against Coventry and Johns against Reading in the Simod Cup. Both games at home, both defeats. Both unusual goalkeeping displays.

They needed to be good, the way we defended. Probably had the consistently best filled spot. Imagine SWP as a keeper. FMOB.

No1 No1 on 23:32 - Feb 22 with 1551 views | terryb | The OP asked for favourite 'keeper rather than the best. Smithies is fast closing in on Parkes, Hucker & Day for me. Phil would be in pole position , but I can't seperate the other three. [Post edited 23 Feb 2017 0:03]

Stekskals debut was away at Leeds (wegerle goal) let two in in ten minutes and looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights, once strachan missed his penalty he grew into the game.

Definitely, if we're talking favourite as opposed objectively best. Kenny was a brilliant windup merchant for opposition supporters, and had a great song. Have we ever had a song for a keeper before or since?

Sheep, sheep, sheep shagger x 4 Always surprised me that we never entered that in the Eurovision. At the very least, it was worthy of a Brit nomination!

No1 No1 on 08:52 - Feb 23 with 1356 views | MrSheen | I'd like to put a word in for Paul Jones. Considering he was 40 when he played for us, he made some amazing saves. I remember one late in a game against Notts County from right in front. I don't think anyone knew how he saved it. Stejskal really suffered from the backpass rule. Poor man never knew what to do with the ball at his feet. [Post edited 23 Feb 2017 9:48]

Reg Allen? Not that I remember that far back. Played 138 games for the Rrrrs between 1938-50, interrupted by the war in which he was a POW from 1941. Part of the Third Division (south) championship winning team of 1948. Bought by Man U for a world record gk fee of £11k. Won the league in 1951-52. Sadly died a few days short of his 57th birthday in 1976.
