And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot
That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles

Terribly sad news. Still watch Minder and The Sweeney but not so much New Tricks. Those black and white stills at the end are so atmospheric and touching. RIP Dennis.
RIP Dennis Waterman, the last of The Sweeney trio 🌹
As an East End Ankle biter in Shaw Taylor knock off sergio tacchini Tracksuits, You were the Dad I always wanted but never had growing up.
Arthur, Dave and Justine have lined up your 49p half pint of Lager on the Double diamond beer mat on the bar of the Winchester Club. (Archie and Self Inflicted, Are still barred,)

I'm still Waiting for Terry to show up at the bar while he unloads a Cotchell of ping pong balls for Arthur...

A program that meant so much to me. Distant relation the exec producer One of my Godfathers in a couple of episodes But above all else…. It is one of my earliest memories of being allowed to sit up “late” and watch proper tele with my hero my Dad. All the places looked familiar, all the characters seemed familiar and it all seemed so real. Then a couple of years later I understood why - it was art imitating life with parts of Acton, Ealing, Foolham and the Bush that I’d been driven through or stood outside with a bottle of Pepsi and a packet of Weetos
RIP “Terry”…. You weren’t a perfect man but I’ll never forget the time I met you and those Monday nights inbetween photos of Tower Bridge and the Thames TV jingle
Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal
I always remember that scene from series 1. The bloke who played Kev the QPR supporter was the one who played Ken, Wolfie Smith's mate in Citizen Smith.
Even if you had only co-starred in The Sweeney, one of the greatest shows of all time, it would be some legacy but to then immediately follow it with Minder, another of the greatest shows of all time was some going.
If I remember correctly, the ratings for the first series of Minder in 1979 weren't all that great as it was interrupted by the ITV strike blackout but ITV bosses kept faith and were rewarded eventually with a consistent ratings topper. Today it would have been axed after series 1.
It still stands up today 40 years later and quality wise is a world away from the lowest common denominator drivel that seems to fill ITV's schedules these days.
When I was a kid, a fancy sports car pulled up outside number 66 opposite ours. That was reason enough to get excited back in the late 70s but then things got even better when Dennis Waterman and his wife got out!! It turns out that Dennis's wife was the sister of our neighbour Mr Maynard.
Have to say this was pre-Minder and I was too young to be watching The Sweeney so I didn't know who he was. But I can remember all the mums on the estate (including mine!) getting very excited by this!
Minder was quality, apart from the racist comment I think in the first episode.
The a great theme tune and great contrast between the working-class hero in Terry and exploiting conman in Arther.
Also showed that you did not have to be a brute to get the girl, as Terry was a gentleman always. He often got the upper-class lady, which is reminiscent of Charlie Chaplin.
A post from a Memeber of the excellent Minder.Org website ;
Local Notes;
There was much sadness in the local area on Sunday with news of the sudden passing of popular local man Terrence (Terry) McCann at the age of 74.
A native of the area, Terry was a successful and highly talented boxer in his younger days and was tipped as a future British champion before injury cut short a highly promising career. He retained a lifelong passion for the sweet science and his words of encouragement and advice were much sought and valued by any aspiring local fighter.
Football was Terry's other sporting interest, and he was often to be found at Craven Cottage and Stamford Bridge on alternate weekends. Only days ago he had celebrated the Cottagers' promotion to the Premier league.
Terry was employed for many years with the local firm of A.E. Daley Ltd, chiefly in the motor and general wholesale trade departments of that concern. He would regale any company with the often hilarious escapades he enjoyed in his time with the firm.
He will be remembered as a friend to all, always ready with a sympathetic ear and a helping hand to all who needed it, without seeking anything in return. Terry will be sadly missed by his many friends in local sporting and business circles, The Winchester club, and the community as a whole.
Rest in Peace.
