When Burrell is back, are we starting with him and Kone up top 08:47 - Feb 5 with 1200 viewsnumptydumpty

Will Kone starting behind Burrell, hinder Kone and likewise if the situation reversed.

Or is it more effective to have a Vale/Chair/Dembele in the ten role with either Kone/Burrell up top and the other on the bench.

It will be quite a big call to make, for sure.

I think we're in a great position where we've now got 2 formations that can offer different ways of attacking, with either being effective depending on the opposition. Dont think itll be a case of our best 11 having either Burrell or Kone (or both) but what will hurt the opposition more. I do think though that Kone is vital in both and we might struggle with just Burrell up top

I think we've seen it's hard to make it work playing them both together, unfortunately, with Kone in the more withdrawn role. Unless they and JS can find a way of doing so, therefore, it would be the definition of insanity to try it again and hope for a different result imo. Kone isn't an auxiliary/deeper lying striker - he's a traditional no. 9 with a cute finish in him, as we've seen.

Vale has impressed me of late, and is for me a more plausible starter than Morgan in Chair's absence, but let's also hope there's plenty more to come from Dembele (I'm not one of the haters) and, dare we say, a fit-again Poku.

Poll: A little over halfway through the season, where do you see us finishing?

Burrell and Kone are 9s. Chair and Vale are 10s. We should play with one 9 and one 10.

Given his size, I see Obiwan as potentially, an 18!

Ideally you'd mix it up a bit to keep teams on their toes, you could do a more midfielder type no 10 like Vale/Chair for some games and for others a pure front two of Kone/Burrell

I agree with AberystwythR that we have 2 systems that have worked for us and I hope we see Stephan make good use of both of them. If we ever have all the players fit at the same time, there'll be excellent set-up and in-game options.

Thats exactly that. Its been strange in recent seasons, our lack of adaptability to different ways of playing. Usually its been one system throughout for long periods of time.

i do hope we do change things in terms of set up within games and be used as an alternative way of winning games where the system we start a game, is changed and in good time.

Sometimes Stephan makes tactical changes far too late.

Personally I see Kone on his own up front with Vale behind as the best option. That is very very harsh on Burrell I know but I just think it gives us better control of games. But also as said above, we will need to change formation depending on opponent.

Kone had his best game last week and was excellent further forward on his own. Vale has blown hot and cold but has looked great in the last two games. With Burrell out for a while yet they have a chance to convince further before Chair and Burrell return to the squad. It’s a good problem to have for a change.

The key test of whether the Kone with Vale works will be tomorrow. As we know we’ve been terrible going forward away from home. Need to sort that out.

Really like Vale and glad to see him get a run in the team. I think he's the most natural replacement for Madsen in the no.8 if he needs a break for whatever reason. Gets through a lot of running, doesn't shirk a 50/50, and will play the ball forward up the pitch. Morgan, bless him, does not offer the same control or footballing IQ at the moment - it's why I think Stephan kept Vale on for the full 90 against Cov, as he keeps the ball so well.

I think given our fitness record it's all academic really. How often are they all going to be available? It's good to have options. I'm not sure how much more we'll see of Burrell this season sadly.

I think we are worrying about problems that don't exist. Last video I saw or Rumarn he was still on crutches. I'd be shocked if we see him before Easter.

If we keep flogging Kone to death he might end up playing instead of him, not with him...

Yeah, not a problem, Kone will be injured or in desperate need of a rest by the time Burrell is back, and if the latter is still on crutches, that's not going to be soon.

One up top, definitely.
No one has mentioned Kolli in either the 10 or 9, which is surprising. I'd like to see him in the 10 role if he makes it off the bench.
