There's an hallucination joke in there somewhere

There is something quite amusing and ironic in the fake hoops appointing a head of AI.

Never knowingly right.

To be fair if there’s somewhere that could do with some artificial intelligence it’s Reading.

Then you’ll agree

In fairness perhaps the crèche next to the away end is not representative.

I actually lived in Whitley Wood which is close to the new stadium. Often used to go to Elm Park which was much better.

Used to love watching Robin Friday. What a waste of a great talent.

Robin Friday, brilliant player! From Acton. Would have been a Rangers legend had we picked him up.

(Don't tell anyone but I'm from Reading too, also saw him play at Elm Park)

I played against h as a 10yo and 5 a side with him in my teens. His twin brother, Tony, played semi pro for Southall

When I posted this I wasn't expecting some refugees from the Thames Valley to out themselves for having paddled up the river to the promised land.

All I can say is welcome to civilisation and #StopTheBoats :-)

As for the story about Reading using AI.

My first reaction was to roll my eyes. AI is becoming a bit like the dot com boom when everyone suddenly decided they had to have a website even though they didn't know what it was or what they would do with it.

But when I think about it a bit more AI could be a useful tool for coaches and scouts.

In my experience data analysts generally act as a bridge/gatekeeper between the repositories of data and the subject experts. How well or badly that works can often depend on the competence of the individuals involved and how effectively they are able to communicate with each other.

One thing AI is good for is allowing users without IT skills to access and search databases and generate reports.

If AI can be developed to allow coaches and scouts to directly access data themselves without having to go through data nerds who may have little knowledge of the game then it might produce more effective outcomes.

However, something tells me that's not what Reading have in mind and what we might end up with is clubs employing even more professional analysts and paying for this by laying off scouts!

And Patrick, in between jobs in the 90s i worked in a ladbrokes in Whitley, probably the deepest nadir of my entire life, thus far. A beautiful segment of my life, it wasnt !!

Well done on remaining sane in such a delightful place on earth !!!!!

Another one here, moved from Feltham to Burghfield so went up in the world. For those non Reading guys Burghfield is a village just South of Reading (RG postcode). Wondering if there is enough of us to grab a beer / curry and feel sorry for each other. Drive to C&S almost exactly an hour

Mr Cod is indeed still there, but a pale shadow of its glory days. Although maybe going there sober didn't help.
