I was at the Derby game last week and afterwards got talking to someone who works for the club. I won’t mention their role as I don’t want to put them in the spotlight but, suffice to say, they were very credible. This person said that Stefan does not pick the team, Nourry does and it’s simply JS’s job to coach. They also said that substitute decisions are made from the executive box too. I was sceptical at the time but I’ve been thinking about it all week. More and more it seems to make sense. Looking at today’s team sheet with Kolli cast into outer darkness when we desperately need a striker can only suggest some sort of personal grudge. Aren’t we supposed to be developing young players? Nardi brought back last week out of nowhere then disappeared today. There have been countless examples like this all season. Not to mention strangely protracted substitute responses. We have lived this all before with Briatore so it’s not beyond the realms of imagination. In fact, it explains a lot. I feel sorry for JS as I felt sorry for Cifuentes. Must be like managing in a straitjacket. I am not a conspiracy theorist or rumour monger. Just passing on what I’ve heard after some consideration. Has anyone else heard anything similar? |  | | |  |

I don't know who picks the team but there's an agenda here and although some things improved this season the horrible inconsistency, dreadful defensive coaching and lack of players being put through proper rehab is a spectre that could haunt us if it doesn't change. |  |

Yes I very much doubt he's saying this is the team for Saturday to Julien but like any DOF he'll be telling the manager which prospects from the development squad are next in line and he'll have his say and I agree the likesa of De Souza and Betsy would be invovled as well.
I'm sure in the past Ferdinand would have had his say on the next game and Ramsey as well but whether the manager went with what they said or not is another thing |  | | |

If Nourry's PR team is reading this, giving him snippets or whatever, how about doing the straightforward thing and actually getting him to answer proper questions from a proper journalist in a live environment, with no pre-agreement of questions?
Then, instead of thrilling responses to "have we thought about turning the pitch 180 degrees" we could actually get his thoughts on real questions, like:
1) How much influence do you have personally in picking the team? Then, if / when you get the bog-standard response of never, a follow up of so could you explain to the Rangers fans why the League Cup side at Plymouth contained entirely kids? Why did the manager think that was a good idea?
2) From your DofF role, can you explain the manager / management's thinking behind the goalkeeper situation this season? How have we got to the end of the season and been left with a scenario where we have one promising young keeper with confidence shot to pieces, one (presumably) out of contract decent keeper who we have treated like absolute dirt and one geriatric who didn't even know the rules had changed. Have any lessons been learned here?
3) Are you happy with the general standards at the club? That, even when finishing mid-table, we have been heavily beaten on quite a few occasions? That, when losing heavily at home, our substitutes were seen laughing on the bench? That, having secured safety from both relegation and the play-offs, we proceeded to lose almost every game?
4) What is the club's position regarding the Car Giant land availability?
5) What's the justification in the large season ticket price rises? Why has one of the concession bands been removed? Why was the stated reason for this - "misuse by fans" not brought up earlier in the season, and what is meant by it exactly?
Answer those clearly and honestly, Christian, and some of the chatter / rumours may die down. I shall dream on. |  | | |

I wouldn’t think he picks the team per se and certainly there have been times when JS has taken complete control, like in the immediate aftermath of the Coventry debacle. But I certainly feel that Nourry has a significant influence with his ‘favourite’ players. I don’t think JS rates Varane very highly, he regularly drops him or substitutes him, but then after a couple of games being left out, he becomes a starter again, with no discernible improvement from his previous performance. That’s on Nourry I feel. He either rates Varane as lot higher than JS or he is trying to flog him. Personally I hope it’s the latter. | | | |

Perhaps I'm wrong, but I very much doubt that Stephan decided that Cook wouldn't be available for the last two games as he was leaving at the end of the season. That had to be a club/Nourry decision.
Of course, there are alternative views on whether this was a good decision. If we'd have been playing Stoke (or most other Championship clubs), I'd have had no problem with it , but we were playing clubs involved in promotion/play offs. We have a duty of care to other clubs to give our best in these games & not to have our integrity questioned. Cook was needed. To be fair, Smith was possibly our best defender on Saturday, but look how poor the other four were!
And so was Kolli needed, but he has once again beeen removed from the squad by magic. Whether that means he is definitely leaving & so was barred from playing, we will find out in due course, but I have my suspicions.

No. I don't think this is true at all.
Citing the Plymouth game is a bit weak - 50% on here would support playing the kids in that game. Makes sense for new gaffer to see them and support an overall club decision to play them.
But, he can't be cedeing team selection to the brat upstairs, he would have walked or rebelled months ago.
One thing though, he WILL 100% be gone by the end of the month if there is interference in team selection. | | | |
