I was living in Middlesbrough at the time and it wasn't on that ITV region. I had the first half on 5 Live but then they switched to another game at half time and I'd stormed out with the hump but I had to hear the second half as I am a QPR addict.
I ended up very drunk that night and met my now wife who saw me staggering in through the door swigging from a bottle of vodka whilst singing about Johnny Spencer and she must have thought he is the man for me. | | | |

Been on a couple of courses via kids school and work and it is actually quite scary in the sense of how it’s all designed to be provocative, contradictory, addictive, empty your pockets and worse, be predatory in so many ways.
We’ve seen on here how toxic things can get and by and large that’s mostly people who just care but have different opinions, when it’s done by design it’s lethal.
The work course recently talked about the Louis Theroux ‘manosphere’ documentary and he said it’s basically all designed to get people, young lads in essence, to think they can get laid because they suffer from low self esteem.
“Pay me £1000 and I’ll send you the course”. Probably doesn’t work and the buyer is not exactly protected by any consumer rights.

I was working on a site in Merton in 1990 and it was proper boring with the existing site team quite clicky and didn't welcome a teenage oik like me being parachuted in.
When they went on their site walks I used to ring up Clubcall for the latest and Tony Cinzano always kept you on the hook by saying what the big story was at the start but then going through even more inane bollox before he got to the "big sell".
Anyway the phone bill came in and it was off the planet.
An investigation ensued and I was sitting their in the cabin as they ran through the most expensive and most used numbers.
First was the weather update which was one we used for diary updates so that was okay but canned.
Next was a chat line which was being used by the out of hours security... okay, that tw@t is sacked.
Third top was a sex line - same fella so already toast.
Then they rang the next one and the Site Manager said, no word of a lie, "fcuk me, it's your friendly Queens Park Rangers football club news updates line....... that security fella has a fcukin screw loose.... he's definetely sacked!!!"

Yes its definitely addictive - the algorithms are designed to produce little dopamine hits. I'm in recovery for other issues so I know I'm especially susceptible to it. I think it also pumps out extreme views on both sides of any contentious issue, like Gaza, immigration etc. which seems designed to divide us. I was on twitter a few years ago but sacked it off. I joined facebook about 18 months so I could join the group re-selling tickets and found myself constantly doom scrolling through the reels. Now we've got season tickets I've sacked it off too - and was fed up with the constant "sack the manager" stuff on the QPR facebook groups after every game we lost. I do look at this site a few times a day between meetings if I'm working from home - a bit more intelligent punditry and some of the random out of season topics like guitar playing and gardening! I do love the QPR podcasts but have noticed I get a bit obsessive about all the match previews and reviews (my rewired brain is still healing after nearly 9 years clean) and have noticed that my missus is able to switch off after a game until the next one - but I can live with an obsession with QPR podcasts - and I can still get things done around the house while I'm listening to them. I avoid social media like the plague these days though. | | | |
