Not sure I would agree with you, Wilkins and I suppose a moot point at the moment as Dembele is out for some time yet. I think Smyth is more technical than he gets credit for, but more importantly he is a grafter and will track back if Cirkin is caught upfield. I would be more concerned pairing him with Saito for the present. Anyway a great signing and the sooner we can get him on the pitch the better. | | | |

To be fair with Cirkin and injuries, its been his hand that was the problem. As far as I can see he hasn't had ACL, hamstring or serious muscle injury in the past.
Hopefully he gets up to speed quickly.

I was chatting to a mate last week who asked me if we’d made any interesting signings this summer. When I mentioned Lamptey he just said “very overrated”. Now my friend is a Palace fan so I’m not sure how much the Brighton connection comes in and he did concede that he might be good at Championship level. He is usually a good judge of a player however so I'm in the wait and see department. |  | | |

One thing that's struck me about the "development club vs. progressing up the league" debate you mention towards the end is that they're not mutually exclusive. Pushing towards the playoffs isn't just fun for supporters, it also puts the players we're hoping to sell far more prominently in the shop window; surely it's easier to get £10m for Richard Kone if we're in 5th rather than 15th.
I can understand the reasoning behind throwing Walsh, Larkeche etc into the first team, but if it keeps us stuck in the bottom half of the table then it's a false economy. Hopefully investing smartly in the rest of the team, which this deal with Cirkin feels like, will give us a better chance of not just improving the team on the pitch, but securing the sales that our trading model demands. | | | |

Missed the game , just watched the ten minutes highlights.
How did he look defensively? In the highlights there were two occasions first half where to my eyes it looked like he gave the Blackburn winger a lot of space to get crosses in, one of which lead to the goal. | | | |
