I feel uneasy about the club doing a PR push on young players like this...
Scarlett looks very promising but he's got a way to go before yet he establishes his career. I feel things like this put extra pressure and expectations on young shoulders.
He still looks a bit lightweight at times which is ok as he is just a kid. Little flashes of good play here and there. Looks promising but still a long way to go.

issue is when is the time right ? he did ok and actually thought he did better when we went down to ten men was a little braver with the ball , the club need to be careful how they handle him off the pitch though to much to soon could leed to problems later on if we arent careful

Raised in the EFL is an EFL initiative to showcase young players - if you Google every club is doing similar - I assume we're asked/encouraged to pick a player out.
a double edged sword cos whilst there is a lot of merit in what's being said re: caution, it is a selling point for our production line attempts if we can credibly say if you come here, you'll get game time and we'll raise your profile too

I didn't mind him starting at the weekend, falling behind after 20 seconds and having to chase the game with 10 men was nothing to do with him starting really.
I wouldn't start him every week but playing at home against a poor side isn't the worse idea especially as he did well for an hour at West Brom a week earlier

I thought Vale was meant to start against PNE, so I'm not sure how planned it all was. Felt bad for Leon getting pulled to adjust the shape, when any number of players could have been hooked based off that first half.
Its always tricky picking when to blood youngsters.
If you are fighting relegation, or going for promotion the league games are too important to mess up. If you change the whole team for a cup game, like at Plymouth, thats too many at once.
10 years of 15th would suggest we could have been a factory for debuting youngsters recently...
But, on the other hand, if they only ever come on as a sub when we are 2-0 up what are they going to learn?

We were at home against a team that's lost 6 of 7 this year, in a no pressure game. We have injuries in that position and he's had a few subs appearances under his belt. If you're EVER going to start him, that feels like a low risk game to pick for me.
Decent youngster, will get better for sure. Makes us look good that a 17-year-old can make the team regardless of the circumstances.
There will be some players big clubs like City and Arsenal let go at the end of the year; they will say to themselves, "I am better than Scarlett; I lasted longer at Arsenal", and at that point we have a chance to get em on the cheap or free.
So, good PR this. Come to QPR, you will get a career and be developed.

He got knock off the ball at least 3 times , not a starter for me. Needs to fill out a fair bit , maybe a loan would be preferable.

Easier to loan a player if they already have some experience of professional football, look at Bennie and Morgan who got pretty decent loans this season.

It was wrong to start him, he is not ready yet, he was pretty average when he was playing & hence why he was replaced at HT, I doubt if he will get many starts this season, there were two championship wingers sitting on the bench who livened us up when they came on. JS got it badly wrong & why he was replaced at HT.

But unfortunately for JS he doesn’t have this clairvoyant with hindsight evaluation to make his decisions before the match.
How, if you are a better writer than Clive, could you come up with a narrative that 1, we lose Vale before a ball is even kicked 2, conceded a 20 sec howler, and the mistake made by our most reliable player, 3. had a player sent with the match 15 mins old, and 4. Conceded a second goal with 70 minutes of football still to be played
Fate is pretty unkind to our gaffer, methinks, in this match we all think should’ve been 3 points, not exactly a walk in the park, but a win is on the cards surely?
So it is understandable for JS to start Scarlett in this match, it is not no pressure game, I agree, but the stage is set for a highly rated player not yet 17 to get his first 11 debut. I would think so.
Now, I wouldn’t argue with your post match analysis, but here we are looking at a coach who has been highly successful in his career coaching young talents that he actually nurtured, brought on the big stage and went off to better things, and his success with Rennes, Strasbourg etc. Why would we think we are better or more experienced to run QPR’s first teams and making those hard and calculated decisions?
It is a spectacular match how his initial decisions did not paid off, but my word, did our team came back fighting and forced a result that wasn’t the end of the world. I think they too were overwhelmed by those events and went a bit lost and downtrodden but the rejuvenated second half performance with immense sense of self-belief and unyielding energy just told me so much of my team, where many have agreed teams of the past would have just melted and gave up without a fight, but not this bunch, with that performance, we take heart, build on it and turn this into a successful and rewarding season.
