Martin is clearly here as cover for Dykes.
Dykes has been in hospital for more than a week. That only happens if you are very sick these days. I would guess we won;t see Dykes for at least a month, maybe much longer.
We also have no idea how he will be used. Maybe he will just be on the bench as cover.

We probably had to pay most of those contracts up at least partly, It wasn't just them. Players like Luke Young and Shaun Wright-Phillips, bought in a panic and no doubt overpaid, were on the payroll for years after they basically stopped playing.

The reality is we are only a few years on from our financial meltdown, which occured when we got the biggest FFP fine in history and had a useless squad stuffed with over-paid has-beens.
Running a business is a long-term thing, but in football everyone wants a quick fix. Would relegation really be "a disaster"? The only disaster I can see is if our owners walk away. Because no one is going to pick up the debts then. Yeah, we all want to win, we all want to get promoted, but that's not happening this year and if we can actually start to rebuild a younger squad for next season, maybe we can start moving forward.

Beale thought he was too big for QPR, so it goes as saying that "his boys" think they are too big for QPR. That will take time to sort out and nothing so far has shown to me that Critchley is not well capable of doing the job. He needs time, deserves time and will get time.

Field has obviously been told to get up the pitch rather than playing right in front of the defence and it is making a huge difference

Why did you want QPR to spend loads of money?
Surely any money spent now means less that can be spent in the summer when they will be looking at a proper rebuild.
If you always look at QPR in comparison to what other clubs do, then you will always find something to de disappointed about.
I'm glad to see Chelsea blow another £100m every time they buy a player. It's all more debt that Boehly will be ever more anxious to get back when they don't get into the Champions League, especially after he overpaid for the club by so much.. After all, they can only play 11 players at any one time
Our team should be comfortably good enough to avoid relegation.

So what? It's a great story. Wrexham were Division Two when I was a kid. The previous owner basically tried to bankrupt the club so he could sell off the ground for housing and part of it was already condemned (the end they are rebuilding). Good luck to them. The show is fantastic and a million levels up from that Salford City rubbish, which shows no imagination beyond trying to make the woman who sells burgers into a "character".
The greatest ever fly on the wall sports documentary was "Another Bloody Sunday" about Doncaster Rugby League in around 1980. It's on YouTube somewhere.

We should put Dieng up front. Or at least send him up for any corners

Zelensky was one of 39 candidates for president in the 2019 election he won with about 73 per cent of the vote in the run-off against the sitting president in an election that was declared as free and fair by observers.

I always thought the best tactics for that is to ignore the touch and just blast it. Thus it deflects off someone on the line (making it indirect) rather than giving the defence and keeper a chance to come off the line and close it down.
Should have been Dykes taking it anyway.

Carlisle - we lost.

I once watched CSKA Moscow at home and saw an Argentina team with Messi, Aguero, Di Maria and co beat Brazil at the Beijing Workers Stadium, but neither of those are as remote as Carlisle.

I'm lucky enough to have seen Alexei Sayle a couple of times live, including on his comeback tour a couple of years ago, absolute genius. His live album Cak is just wonderful.
Enjoy Stewart Lee a lot too.

Thomas next ?
at 11:41 6 Jan 2023

Thomas was on a free transfer and aged 22, having been signed from Coventry to Leicester aged 20. We had looked at him before, I seem to remember there were rave reviews from Coventry. He ended up spending most of his first season injured. But then again, so did Sam Field.
He is not someone we spent £5 million on.
