The Brighton players getting this should change nothing, if they get it when back to training or playing thats a big issue that can and probably will put an end to football for a while but getting it whilst in isolation shouldn't have much of an impact

except it will scupper any plans they might have to restart and finish the season by the end of July

But surely you make it realise how impossible it is. When one player, or coach, or manager gets it when the season starts, which one 100% will, both that team, and all the teams they have played in the past two days, will have to isolate for two weeks. Meaning nearly have the games once again get postponed as they will be playing so many in a short period of time. Then it starts again, one player gets it, and repeat. How on earth do they expect to play 100 games + in a month with no complications. Its just unrealistic, so why even bother trying and risking it all

Agreed, but have a feeling football and footballers are far more important than peoples lives, in some views. (not here i may add).

Certainly considered very important to the economy probably rightly. It's a big part of our culture/identity. Sure we can live without it but we'll be a poorer country for it. No idea what they should do but I can't really blame them for trying to get things moving again.

But at the moment, is it really that important to get it restarted? If it wasn't for Sky surely they'd just be knocking it on the head and restarting with a new season in August/September.

Two things I've not really understood watching from afar, why it's so important that football restarts and why it's so important that garden centres reopen?

If you can't finish this season with 9 games left why on earth would you start a new one with 46 games when the virus is still around and the problems are the same

I don't think you can do it all in a month and I do think a June start is still hugely optimistic but it's no different to any business trying to get back to work. Any office based business, any restaurant, the tube everything you can think of will face these issues where if one worker gets it they shut down so you either give up and say we can't do it until a vaccine is found and basically all stay indoors, which could be for years, or you try and find a way which is what they are doing. It might not work and could end up failing but they have to try.

Should also be pointed out that the Government are saying football can restart and are encouraging it so whilst the Prem and EFL are getting stick for being daft and trying to do this all they are doing it trying to find a way after being told to by the people in charge. If Government say this is ridiculous you can't play Sport untiL September, as France have, then the plans would need to be very different.

I meant if by August/September things had calmed down. I don't really see the point in cramming the rest of this season in anyway, it's lost all momentum, would be anti-climatic in empty stadiums and perhaps there's a sense, even amongst football fans, that football just isn't that important.

it may not be important but what is important? Are hairdressers important, book shops, garden centres? All of these business need to find a way to re start as well with big financial implications if they don't.

Dentists..... mostly closed but I'd say thats very important healthwise.

INteresting article from a DR in Mail yesterday - points out many anethasised to the coming trouble by Furlough etc, when that ends....

He also pointed out in 2015/15 WInter season 28 thousand died from the "normal" flu season.

It's an opinion, but also Lockdown and Suppression could store a worse problem rather than build the - yes - herd immunity.

If one forgets football for a second and look at how many people and jobs, cannot work from home then you've got to start looking at trying to kickstart the economy.

There seem to many people thinking Lockdown must carry on, but really whats the end game - waiting for the virus to die - or a vaccine???

They don't seem to be able to prove if you've had it yet, so how can they guarantee an vaccine?

The great unknown here in the UK seems to be what is it we're trying to actually achieve?

if football costs just 5 lives, is that an acceptable price to pay?

I dont think heard immunity exists with this disease, does it?
L.A. times said this week that they have found a strain of the virus that has modified itself, so where does this all stop?

Are we, as human beings willing to risk ourselves, our friends and family, neighbours, co workers etc just to see football back or get out and about again? Is life that cheap now?

Footballers have just been instructed to go back to work, haven’t they??

“people who could not work from home should return to the workplace - but avoid public transport.”

How is construction work any different from football in that regard?

Totally agree with this - I think they should try to finish this season once it is safe to start playing again. If they are unable to finish, how do they think they are going to be able to start and finish a whole season without a vaccine or without the virus mutating into something less threatening.

You are applying a solution to a problem you perceive as only existing in the EFL & EPL; it doesn't, a large number of leagues have already had their seasons voided and the results scrubbed, including some teams who had already achieved automatic promotion. If you have one solution for one group of people in your organisation and a different solution for the other part of your organisation then you are leaving yourself wide open for legal action to be taken.

The grass is always greener.

Agree with this. I read that one Professor estimates the amount of people to have had the virus in the UK already is millions, but very few have been tested.

In my opinion, the only way to move on is for herd immunity because we simply can't afford not to work and for kids not to go to school for many reasons. The amount of new cancer cases has dropped alarmingly low as people can't go to the doctor as normal to get things checked out.

This virus isn't lethal to the overwhelming majority, which is why supermarkets are still open, postman still working, people working in warehouses, etc.

All those refusing to go back to work will no doubt be the ones refusing to pay the huge tax increases we'll see over the next 20 years.

Protect the vulnerable, don't overwhelm the NHS but life must go on.

Euro 96 being repeated in full on ITV4 starting today.

El Tels book on this was superb going through his tactical plans for Euro 96, really fascinating. On why he left short version is he had a court case coming up against Spurs and FA didn't back him or offer him a deal beyond that summer which he was furious about so agreed to go. They appointed a less controversial manager in Glenn Hoddle which ended well. Venables autobiography is well worth a read on all of this plus his time at QPR

The EFL and EPL have 2 choices. The results are either decided on the football pitches or the court rooms. However difficult it will be to play football, it's far more attractive in so many ways than the court rooms. There are some very rich, powerful egotistical owners in both the top 2 leagues. The only way they will take defeat, is if it's on the pitch

"In my opinion, the only way to move on is for herd immunity"

Not good news with regards to herd immunity, Gloucs.

"A very optimistic figure of 60 per cent has been suggested as being the threshold for herd immunity against Covid-19, but this is not backed up by reproducible research findings. Estimates of 5-15 per cent of the population being infected are a long way off those required for herd immunity.

An effective vaccine is the safest and most effective means of generating herd immunity and is potentially the best medical intervention against Covid-19. More than 70 candidate Covid-19 vaccines are in development; seven of these have started the first of three phases of clinical testing. The University of Oxford Vaccine Group have predicted that they may a have a vaccine tested and ready for use in six months, but most scientists estimate it will take 12-18 months.

In order to achieve herd immunity, the entire population, including children, would have to be vaccinated. Therefore, vaccine manufacturers will have to satisfy regulatory agencies that the vaccine is not only effective but has passed stringent safety testing before it is licensed for widespread use."
