just watched a micky Flanagan tape, well halfway through, stopped it, threw it in the bin. didn't even smile, let alone laugh once.
plenty of good comedians to name but...
bob monkhouse, clever comedian tommy cooper, just looked and laughed Bernard manning, very undiverse, but fitted in with the times, especially when you had people such as Charlie Williams and Kenny lynch laughing at him.
was going to include comedy series, but just too many over the years. oh ok then
Stuart Lee Paul Whitehouse Al Murray -seen him live a couple of times including a pre-tour gig above a pub in Chiswick, very funny Phil Silvers - the only funny American Tommy Cooper

Well done Steve first mention of the greatest living British stand-up and his name is spelt wrong. I think Stewart Lee would approve.

Tommy Cooper lived in Chiswick and drank in the George IV. He was notorious for not buying his round - he would join in with the regulars who included my Dad and disappear when it was his turn at the jump. In the end they told him he was welcome in their company but he had to buy his own which he did from that point on. He probably had more money than the rest of them put together.
There's a story of Tommy Cooper saying to some guy who'd done him a favour "Have a drink on me" and slipping something in the guy's top pocket.
When the guy checked it was a tea-bag.

Not read thread so maybe already mentioned but Gary Delaney is worth (another) mention. Great delivery although he only seems to have 30+ minutes of material. Still very good though. Also surprised how much I found Jimmy Carr very good in stand up recently. On the other hand there's Ricky Gervais. Nobody can doubt his genius in The Office but his stand up show Humanity is just fecking terrible. Turning into a one-hit comedy wonder, imo (Extras average at best) although did enjoy the obviously non-comedic After Life.
However, what this lockdown has enabled me to do is watch Peep Show for the very first time! Watched all nine seasons in about 2 weeks and am rewatching again. It is my favourite ever TV comedy series, without any doubt. Absolute quality.
Special mention to Modern Family which I've just started watching. Still only on the first series but like the gorgeous Sofia it's looking very good and could still yet usurp Senfield as my favourite American sitcom.
Mighty Boosh Partridge This Country Parks and Rec The Office US Office (this was epic and Steve Carrell superb) Flight of the Chonchords Spaced (was hooked on this) Detectorists Cuckoo (do like some of the BBC stuff) Only Fools Trigger Happy TV (time limited because Joly didn’t come across that well and disappeared after) Father Ted Peep Show Gavin & Stacy Inberweeners Steptoe Fleabag
And the all time best.....
Only Fools, you plonker!

I agree with most of these, especially Dick Emery, Little and Large, Benny Hill, Jim Davison, Bernard Manning being the worst. To think this lot were barely off TV in the 70s.
Greg Davies is v good in stand up. I also like James Acaster and Aisling Bee.
Comedy series:
Modern Family, Fleabag, Inbetweeners, The Good Life, Friday Night Dinner, Green Wing.
I like a ranting comedian too. David Mitchell ranting is brilliant.

I loved Green Wing and you've reminded me that anything with Sally Phillips in usually makes me laugh. Smack The Pony was great and I wish there'd been more of it.
Outnumbered was brilliant and innovative with the unscripted kids.
For contemporary radio comedy I really like John Finnemore.
For old school TV comedy Ronnie Barker was a real craftsman, some of the actual material wasn't great but he was genuinely a fine character actor as well as a comedian.
