That crept up on me. Looks like it might be another three day game. Root and Bairstow could do with an upturn in form.

News just in: ICC (or is it BCCI?) showcase new 2-day Test match initiative.

Pitch has been shocking but it wasn't a 112 all-out pitch in the first innings and that's where we lost it

This hasn't been a great advert for test cricket though

England have had two full innings and amassed a total of 198 runs, honestly you can blame the poor wicket preparation and some dreadful umpiring decisions till the cows come home but we have failed with the bat in this test match quite dramatically.

Awful lot of questions to be answered I'm afraid after this mornings performance.

Be interesting to see what the pitch is like for the match next week?

Good thing Root turned up with his bowling game or it could have been worse.

We’ve batted poorly. But India all out for 140+ too.

So I think you can aportion some blame to the pitch.
Tests should not be over inside 2 days.
Our own fault though, we brought it on ourselves by daring to win the 1st Test !

29/30 wickets taken by spinners in 1st 5 sessions. Says it all really.

I’m getting tired of hearing “good advert for test cricket”.... what does that mean?

This has been highly entertaining and England fans weren’t complaining when England ripped thru India earlier today. England gets dismissed for 81 and suddenly all the chatter abt the pitch, adverts for test cricket, etc

England prepares green tops... I’ve been to test matches in England (oval 2014 and lords 2018) which were over in 2.5 or 3 days.... I had day 4 tickets to England Ireland in 2019 which went unused (even with rain delays in the first 3 days)

It’s only a bad advert for test cricket when England do poorly

I agree but when Joe Root is taking 5 wickets for next to nothing on the 2nd day, the pitch isn't up to standard

Like I said we lost this when we had best use of it in the 1st innings and we certainly didn't learn anything 2nd innings same batsman getting out the same way

You wouldn’t think it was possible to bowl the opposition out for 145 in the 1st innings and still lose by 10 wickets.

India scored 600 plus runs in the last test match with their number 8 scoring a century and yet all I heard was crying and crying and crying about the pitch. It’s highly convenient to cite how India scored 140 in the first innings as a basis for blaming the pitch here..... bear in mind Gill and sharma just knocked off these 50 runs with their eyes closed

Joe root got bailed out on the lbw in the last innings. He even said to Ben stokes “I didn’t hit that. Root got a lucky lbw decision in the last match. Buttler nicked off in the first test and wasn’t given out... and yet there’s more chatter abt bcci conspiracy theories etc (admittedly, the third umpiring has been poor)

England fans have made so many excuses. It’s been incredibly poor sportsmanship

Sorry but whichever way you cut this was an embarrassing performance by England and they have no one to blame but themselves.

India are the home team and will obviously prepare the pitch to suit their bowling strength; spin. England tend to prepare its home pitches to favour seam bowling so any accusation of gamesmanship smacks of the pot calling the kettle black.

Having lost the 2nd test to spin, England went with 1 recognised spinner for the 3rd whilst India selected 3. Poor tactics, poor selection and even worse batting.

The shortest completed test match since 1935.
Simon Hughes analysis about the pink ball was interesting.
It is not sour grapes but these last two pitches have been questionable to say the least.
England won the toss and should have made 200 in the first innings which may have seen a victory.

India are the better side England's batting has been fragile for a long while collapsing from 70-2 to 112 all out is pathetic but having Archer batting at 8 not surprising the tail isn't scoring runs.
The seamers might as well have stayed at home for this game not unusual for the sub continent but this pitch was awful fast bowlers unable to land safely when bowling after tea on the first day. Somehow sense the last Test may be a more usual Indian pitch but who knows maybe India enjoy 2 day Tests.
Sense India will not see a pitch like this at Lords for the final versus New Zealand
Let's see how effective Axar Patel is on decent wickets

That was a good analysis, I agree. Apparently 21 wickets out of 30 went Due to straight balls from the spinners.... that is consistent with what Hughes said in his analysis re the pink ball

Day night cricket also produces some anomalous results.... India scored 36 in pink ball test in December, England were bowled out for 58 in day night against New Zealand...weird stuff happens W the pink ball tests

Even by Indian standards these pitches are poor, another good comment from Hughes, 110 million stadium, 50 cent pitch.

Creeket is back on 16:28 - Feb 25 with 1182 viewsShotKneesHoop

It’s a bad pitch - but there’s been some awful shots from both sides.

England selected the wrong team. Only one specialist spinner - and a long tail - with 4 number 11’s. Archer at 8? FMOB!

And England focussing on T20 and 50 over one dayer cricket at the expense of 5 day Tests hasn't helped.

Spoke to a number of colleagues in India today and the general consensus there is they are pretty embarrassed by the pitch and definitely don't want to see 2 day test matches.

It is worse.
Other than Pope who got out with some freak bat on to pad to fielder the rest have been typically lacking in resolve.
We've gone with one seamer as well? Anderson can't carry this attack as fantastic as he is. Stokes can bowl but never seems 100% fit to do it. There will be so much pressure on Bess and Leach.
I try and be positive with the England cricket team but they really don't help themselves...

And how they can appeal that catch is beyond me, that is out and out cheating from India.
