It looks like both clubs are moving in the right direction and have got their respective fan bases on side. We have gone through a very bleak five or six years, but the hope and belief is back. Yes we have struggled to get out of League 1 for to long, however this year it is different. If we had drawn you in t(e cup last year I would have been expecting a two or three goal loss.

We now have an owner who seems to understand how to run a football club and a whole system change across the club. Previous year the recruitment seems to have been very random and we only get what other teams didn’t want “experienced” players who knew league 1. Well there was a reason why they knew league 1 so well. As a result we had a slow ageing team with little quality playing awful football.

Over the last nine months that has changed , we have a clear policy of data driven recruitment, with an eye to outstanding young talent, somehow getting players to turn down contracts at Spurs and Leeds to join us on permanent deals as well as getting Man City to trust us with Doyle. Yes this will mean that we might be a little patchy as we will be fielding a very young side several under 20’s and they will make mistakes as they learn. Those mistake could be against you and win comfortably, or they could all play to their potential and pull off a cup shock, but it wont be a shock to us.

As to the style of play, this is totally different to last season, with pace across the whole team and good technical skills we do not play a long ball one dimensional game as we did last season, when if you cut off the supply from McGeady we had no plan B. The ball is moved at pace with a lot of quick one twos and the midfield always looking to play the ball forward and get the ball into the channels and Into space for the wide players to run onto.

Confidence is high and the last time we felt this way was back in the Peter Reid days when we got 105 points. I am not saying we are going to do that this season, but just being able to think that way again is remarkable.

By the sounds of your posts on here you seem to be going through something similar, so after this game I hope that the next time we meet will be in Premier League in 2024.

My ancestry on the male line is all Sunderland and Monkwearmouth to around the 1850s, when my great great grandfather moved to Limehouse East London and the family settled there and a further 3 generations up to my Dad was born and brought up in Limehouse. Probably do have a bit of a soft spot for Sunderland because of my ancestry, but that does not stretch to when we play them.

To give you an idea of how we are shaping up, the recruitment over the summer has been at a totally different level, including the return of loan players and the retention of very talented young players. Yes we let 31 goal,Wyke go, but we were very happy with that. His style of play was very one dimensional, get the winger to the by line pull the ball back onto his head and score. That works for a season at lower levels but gets found out, so despite comments from other fans we were happy that the club would not match his demands. In Ross Stewart we have a forward who is 6ft 3 mobile with a good first touch and the ability to bring others in to the game , in short a player on a totally different level.

Then add in 19 year old Dan Neil, who is a future England player, Embleton has player England under 17 , under 19 and under 21 then got injured but is back to his best as a two footed attacking midfielder, it is impossible to say which is his best foot.

We have just brought in two young players from Bayern Munich as well. Then add Cirkin from Spurs who had been offered a contract but turned it down to get first team football and continue to play for England .

In short we have a team that will do well in the Championship next season. We are not playing league 1 football. You will be surprised.

don't think you will be a surprise. Out of all the teams in the draw Sunderland is probably our best chance of getting through to the next round and to be honest Sunderland probably feel the same. Although Sunderland are in league one i don't think anyone really sees them as a league one side, bit like when Leeds went down.

Should be a good game

Interesting to see that so many Clubs that Jimmy Dunne has previously played for are still in this competition.

Burnley,Man U and of course Sunderland.Let’s hope he has a point to prove against them all.

Sorry I forgot Man U are out.

It won't be easy at all, but it's a great draw and we have a better chance of reaching the QF then playing any of the other teams left in the competition. Plus it's not attractive enough to be a live TV game, so no curse either.

Poll: Kitchen threads or polls?

Let’s hope it’s a good game settled by a bit of brilliance rather than a dodgy decision by another tinpot official like keith Stroud, and the winner goes on a lot longer in the competition.
And I hope you get to play those deluded tw@ts from the north side of the Tyne in the league next season.

I am happy enough with that draw, just wonder how Sunderland feel about it though? Long trip, but may also fancy their chances as well. To be fair we seem to play better against better opposition and struggle a little with the more physical sides. You can sure that they will be up for it and put out their strongest team as well, so maybe a tougher game than we'd think.

Maybe they wanted to be spanked at home by a top premier league team so that they can concentrate on promotion?

I fancied us against Everton because we're playing like a premiership side (and had proved that in pre-season) and because I hoped we'd go for it in team section (as we ddi) whole Everton might be less committed. Plus home advantage is huge.

But it never occurred to me to get onto the Everton fan sites within hours of the draw and give it large about how we expected to win. If we'd been drawn away I would have shaded it to Everton.

I expect Sunderland to be about as good as a decent Championship side i.e. not as good as us or any of the other top 6 Champ sides. So long as we don't play silly buggers with the selection (why would we if we didn't last round?) or are casual (very un-Warbs-ish, he clearly gets what fans expect and that we're fed up of binning off the cups) or have injuries then with home advantage we should be too good for Sunderland by a clear margin. If they play proper passing football that will be to our advantage, we like a free-flowing game.

Yes, we are still 100/1 to win the thing with Paddy Power

Yep that's him - lovely bloke, went on a field trip to Malham, let us stay up all night playing cards, just asked us to muffle the pot we were chucking our coins into!

The article is actually a load of rubbish. The only thing we are not happy with is yet another away draw. I think that is something like 7 of the last 8 cup draws we have been drawn away from home.

On the way home after the Everton match, we called Sunderland away as a good one - a night away; I’d imagine decent away support and a great atmosphere. Got the home draw and well pleased. I’d forgotten that I’m going to Ireland to see my wife’s family so can’t make it. Double gutted. At least my brother in law has one of those not quite legal tv boxes so I’ll get to see it.

It is rubbish - straight on the negative. Anyway, I cannot believe you haven’t been asked the very important question: what’s your favourite cheese? Any newbee/visitor has to go through this brutal and terrible initiation ceremony.

Waiting...

If we play like we did against Everton then we win. It's that simple. They are far superior packed with international players no disrespect to League 1 teams.

We have a Sunderland ST mate who lives down here, he came up with us in the back of an escort van along with me driving and two other QPR fans, evening game at the Stadium Of Light, ended 2-2 With Sheron scoring twice in the last 10 minutes.
Got back home 04.00ish, the van stunk of stale football fans and dead half eaten sausage rolls for a couple of weeks.

As for QPR at the moment we're good.

Take it easy.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

Sorry to break the news, but I don't think we're in the top 6!

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?
