Women's Euros 20:59 - Jul 6 with 35587 viewsQPRSteve

Anyone watching?

England 1-0 up against Austria at HT. Should be more, but I expect England to put Austria to the sword in the second half. Good standard of football being played.

Very impressive and enjoyable half.

I must confess I've been sniffy about women's football but this isn't just terrible defending and goalkeeping, there was some real quality attacking, especially from the right winger.

I’m sure you was on the cusp of that remark yourself.

That's as consummate and devastating performance I've seen in a half from a football team in a very long time. If it doesn't work out with Beale let's get Sarina Wiegman in. She's absolutely outstanding as a manager.

Never knowingly right.
Poll: How long before new signings become quivering wrecks of the players they were?

That second Beth Mead goal had a touch of the Stanleys about it.

I was going for a riff on 'Loose Women' but couldn't get it to work. I know when I'm beat.

Bit like Norway, eh? Eh? Am I right?

Off work due to having the dreaded lergy.

Nice there is some football to watch. In the US Emma Hayes in the studio who knows her stuff but holding back at times. I’m sure she can dish out a rollicking when needed. Ian dark commentating with Julie fowdy who is awful. The classic US commentator saying nothing but saying a lot.

Lots of chat about the mens and womens game comparisons. The biggest factor for me is the poorer decision making in the womens game. Makes it a hard watch at times. Also ball goes out of play a lot. It has my full support though.

If only QPR had someone who could consistently put a ball in the box like Lucy Bronze.

They've done what the men have last 2 tournaments by qualifying with a game to spare so would expect a fair few to be rested on friday

Relentless from England: got in front and just kept attacking wanting more goals.
Southgate would’ve shut up shop after the first goal.

Amazing from England but Norway just threw in the towel and it got ugly fast.
Never a penalty in a million years IMO
Will NI show up at all ,hopefully England will run out another starting 11 just for the spirit of the game

Reassuring (or not...) that the female commentators are just as cringy as their male counterparts.

The notion of quality is relative in the sense of both teams are generally expected to be equal (i.e. if it was the women's team vs a professional men's team then the differences may be more obvious).

I only saw the second half (damn!) but I thought England's passing and ball control when receiving long, fast passes was really good. Not England's fault Norway couldn't position themselves in such a way to stop that. Same with crosses, relentless and very good quality. Greenwood seemed very good on the left flank.

A few thoughts and observations: watched the game on iPlayer this morning. It was entertaining enough, I guess, it's just that being used to the speed, power and physicality of the men's game, it all seems a bit tame.

I thought it was very funny when the commentator said, on 5 mins when the England no. 11 chased the ball out of play, 'Hemp's run out of grass.'

Are HABs a thing? Although I suppose these days it might just as well be WAGs. Or even HAGs. It could be WHABGs I guess, although that sounds Arabic.

PS: That was never a penalty!

Poll: Who is your player of the season?

Penalty was in the soft category, the Norway manager has had better nights, when was it clear 3 at the back wasn't working - 0-0, 1-0, 2-0........ nope lets change it at......................6-0.

Bonkers - he also changed a winning team, lose/draw v Austria and he's gone I think.

The Arsenal manager on the BBC, a fellow Norwegian, just couldn't believe the bloke sat there for 45 minutes and did nothing.

Great England performance though.
