I'm completely in awe of this. No event in the history of my life has been marked to that extent. Nowhere near. I have sheer admiration for the people who are making the pilgrimage and I am completely humbled just looking at the queue on my television, yet alone joining it. A shame that more time could not be given to make it more easily accessible but obviously there are logistics and rituals to be observed. I hope every football supporter in the land gives the minute's silence and national anthem the full respect they deserve tomorrow.

I find it mind boggling that you'd go and wait for hours to see the funeral procession and then film it on your phone rather than actually watch it. It's being broadcast around the world in much better quality than your phone can manage, so there will be no shortage of footage available, can't they just appreciate the moment?
Absolutely, its not as if it's not being filmed and readily accessible by everyone for ever.
Not to mention my original classy comment on the unintended consequences of modern behaviour.
And another thing... ...why did the royals have windsor Castle built so close to the airport..?

But they would also be able to vote them out. That's surely the crucial part.
It seems pessimistic to me, almost defeatist, when a people don't believe their citizens could run a democracy to their own betterment, so let's leave it to an unelected family who believe in their own Divinity.
Brian, I think you are getting the UK confused with North Korea. The ‘unelected family’ you are talking about does not in any way rule the UK, they have no say in the running of the country and it is only the Monarch that may offer guidance to the PM of the day but that guidance does not constitute an order. They are purely constitutional, a symbol, nothing more. But it certainly seems that would should be noted about our now departed Queen, and from the mouths of the leaders of Sein Fein, is that she played her part in the peace.
We have witnessed today the absolute respect that Her Majesty held throughout the world with the greatest number of world leaders coming together, would never happen with a US president or any other world leader or head of state and that alone proves to me that the monarchy is worth preserving. She has also got the send off from her peoples that merits her 70 years on the throne. As someone said, she’s done her job. Rest in peace Ma’am.

You can't vote out the UN,WEF,WHO etc.who also apparently believe in their own divinity.
Can't vote out the house of lords either and I would assume that they have more relevance to what happens in the UK than the organisation's that you mention.
I'd imagine it would be best to sort out the house of lords and see what that looks like before worrying about becoming a republic.

Thoughts on the hereditary aspect of it?
Very interesting many twists and turns throughout history, and a real mix of European DNA, through invasion, wars, conquest, marriage etc. Think this is what makes the British Monarchy so unique.

...and even more unjustifiable imho.
Still not heard from republicans on the kind of republic they envisage and the changes required. It’s not simply exchanging an hereditary HoS with an elected one.

Gotta say, watching the funeral, that we do do this thing kind of well! The discipline of the soldiers etc is amazing. Whether you are a Royalist or not, you can't say that wasnt impressive.

Yeah weren’t they just, ruled their people with absolute fear because they didn’t trust them, after using them to topple the Tsar. No democracy but plenty of suppressing and killing of those who didn’t go along with their doctrine. Only second to Nazi Germany.

Some people can’t manage decency and politeness during a short period of mourning for the Queen.
So at 4 o’clock on Saturday, LoftForWorders are all at the game or following online but you are instead on this thread moaning at QPR fans who don’t share your world view.
Edit: Checking back it looks like you didn’t even post on the match thread. Just logged on to downvote and have another snide dig. Do you even support QPR?

Probably a conversation for another thread or not not at all to be honest, I was just trying to point out that everyone thinks they have the best parades / military / ceremony.
