Well done to Beth Mead on winning the sports personality of the year award tonight. The women’s team won team of the year and the manager won coach of the year too. It was one of the best days of mine and my daughter’s lives to see them lift the trophy in July, and one we’ll never forget.
She amassed the most votes, as determined by the general public, hence her being the deserved winner.
It would appear that the woke term is just being used again to denigrate her for no justifiable reason whatsoever. Very sad.
Very sad indeed, but not surprising from some!
I recently activated the ‘ignored’ button for two individuals I consider the premier bastions of bellendery on here. I couldn’t recall who the third member was, but now I’m reminded. Personally I think we’re dealing with one person rather than a triumvirate of individuals, but I highly recommend using the ‘ignored’ button; it’s worth the admission fee on its own!

Agree, I'd encourage the woke posters to ignore me, I'm never going to post anything you agree with so you may as well save yourselves the time and hassle.

The woke mind virus is either defeated or nothing else matters. This is hardly a fringe point of view anymore.
What I think, or what you think I think it means, is utterly irrelevant at this point. You're either paying attention or you're not. You're either an honest person or you're not. It's that simple.
Not a very festive message, but a message all the same!
I used to play 5 a side football, with as many as three women involved. One of them played for Reading Ladies and made me look like a one bow-legged gibbon. We enjoyed those games, not because we were woke but because we just liked playing football.
Just because someone appreciates women's sport, that doesn't mean they're woke.
But you DO look like a one bow-legged gibbon. At least Sheffield Hoop has a pretty fringe.
I see we have reached the thinly veiled threat of extermination level of political debate on Loft For Words.
I used the pull-out method earlier and thankfully avoided conceiving a fully-grown argument for Northern to moderate......shall we give him Christmas off, lads?

Probably a good idea now the Breivik card has been played.
I watched the final with my eight year old daughter and it fired her up for football for the first time. Chloe Kelly became an instant heroine. She’s now into football. So are her mates. At school they all laugh at the boys because the girls won a cup and the boys didn’t.
It was a joyous occasion that united the country and meant a huge amount to young girls all around the country.
All this whingeing from sad old c–ts isn’t going to change that
SheffieldHoop I’d have you round our house to explain the “woke mind virus” to her but I don’t think that would go well for you. Get off the fking internet and experience real life

I've got a friend who used to play in the League Of Ireland (or whatever it was called then) in the 90s who tried everything to get his daughter to play but to no avail.
Now she plays for Milton Keynes in one of their youth sides because of that win.

My football-obsessed 8 year old son and all his mates watched as many games as they could, watched the highlights, and he can still name the winning side. We’re going to watch the England womens team at Ashton Gate in the new year, in a group of 20+ which is mainly lads. The boys were the ones who suggested it. Interesting what happens when womens sport is shown on free-to-air tv and kids are left to make up their own minds about whether they’re interested or not.
My niece, who’s always played football and is a Tottenham season-ticket holder, says that being at the final was the best day of her life, and a mate who took his daughter to games in Brighton has a football-mad daughter now.
I don’t take a great deal of interest in women’s football but I love the fact that for youngsters, unless they’ve got tedious adults in their ears, they’ll make their own minds up and come to see it like the olympics, tennis etc where men don’t generally roll their eyes or get angry at coverage of women participating in sport.
The same people getting worked up about the general public voting for an international championship-winning woman footballer winning an achievement of the year award, are probably the same people who cry themselves to sleep about the idea of a female Dr Who. It doesn’t fuc king matter lads.
I think the overseas sportsman of the year should be unanimously awarded to Boris Becker for services to Big Bill and Big Ben in the shower cubicles at Wormwood scrubs!!!

That will surely satisfy the majority !!!!
🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
Just in case anyone gets offended, it's my stupid dumbass sense of humour !!!!
I think we're gonna need to start working on a woke mind vaccine.
Or just accepting that some people can see value in women’s sport? Interesting that you’ll go along and watch pre-season friendlies - to my mind the biggest waste of time ever as a punter, but you have no interest in watching England win an international championship. 17m+ people watched the final on the BBC - perhaps we’d have been better off watching some people riding round in circles on motorbikes or some cage fighting, like real men.

I actually saw a bit of QPR Women vs Portishead the other day at Harlington. I don't think you're really getting it. But that's to be expected on this forum.
EDIT - Isn't there old episodes of Eastenders that attracted more viewers than that?

You really need me to come to your house to explain the dangers of woke to your eight-year-old daughter?

Let’s be honest, if a game involving Portishead’s women’s football team doesn’t compare favourably with, say, England v France in the WC, case closed. With their budget and infrastructure, every game involving Portishead women’s team should be an instant classic. No way Beth Mead should have won a popular vote with the public and all 11m people who watched England win the Euros is a brainwashed, woke, communist. Even the kids.

She weren't so popular a month ago was she?
The Portishead game was actually decent, won 3-2. Would go again but Hanwell town is a bit of a trek for me on a Sunday afternoon. Hopefully the games keep getting switched to Harlington.
