I'm not overly arsed either and FWIW I think Martin is one of the few good eggs in the side. However, if the manager publicly said nobody's going away and then the current captain turns up in Portugal, it's not great optics is it?

Regardless of whether he's got permission or not, maybe a) don't say anything about holidays in your post-match interview and b) don't take pictures whilst you're on a jolly.
