Spain deserved winners, can't bemoan that fact.
But yet again, be it rugby or football, so many times we do brilliant to get ourselves into a winning position and just seem to come up that bit short when it matters.
Such a shame: the Lionesses have been a credit to England, they deserve to come home with maximum respect.

Se referee for our semifinal where had the result been closer I would have similarly been griped by a few other calls. Ah well.

Womens game has moved on thank heavens and about time. Spain full of clever and technically good players with a great game understanding and full of creativity.
I work in womens football here and I call it the ‘blow football mentality’ where teams force the ball down near the opponents goal. Aggression over composure and US team have been doing it for years and it’s predominant in high level womens soccer here. It gets you results short term due to mistakes etc but long term and development and even cultivating a love for the game I think gets by passed.
England today for example just could not get out of tight areas, Spain can and did. Better team won.
Tracey Kelvins who’s Dad is a Ranger is the US U20 team coach. She will either be the England or US head coach one day. A very talented coach who from as much as I know about her gets it. | | | |
