Nice to be there, thehat.

Yes totally agree about the part regards being a nervous wreck watching our games.

I enjoy the wins more when I get back home and watch the television highlights, but during games can't say, it's often the word "enjoy" that comes to mind.

To be honest I felt a little guilty being there amongst them when there were thousands of genuine Newcastle fans who couldn't get tickets and would've given their right arm to have my seat.

However that's the corporate world we live in I guess.

Said the exact same thing. Peter Dury trying to make the moment about him. Trying desperately to find a soundbite that will be used time and again when they show clips of Newcastles first trophy win in decades

Said it many times but the modern commentators are awful. It's the action we remember, not your reams of learned lines and pseudo psycho babble you waffle on about in order (as you say) to try and get remembered. Drury is insufferable and Matterface dire.

The radio guys, by contrast. are old school and magnificent. So good on 5 live.

And a mention for John Hunt's commentary on Gold Cup day - also brilliant, but obviously for so many more reasons than just the sport. How he carries on, I have no idea.

Pleased Newcastle won, they seemed at it from the off, whereas Liverpool looked really out of sorts. Regardless of all the ownership issues etc. they deserve success for their passionate supporters.

John Hunt - poor chap

An horrendous experience he suffered and suffers

I should imagine having a surviving daughter, he has to remain strong for her sakes, otherwise the temptation would be totally give up, as life would be too painful.

His work is at least a distraction from his dark thoughts, which must be present, almost permanently.

Had a game recently with John Champion commentating, you forget how good the old boys are at it when you're stuck with Gary Weaver screaming about citadels being stormed and flags being planted.

Saturday evening. Peter Drury's wife knocks gently on the door of the study, enters the room and places a cup of tea and a plate of biscuits on corner of the desk.

"How's it going?" she asks her husband, "Are you almost there?"

"Yes, I think I'm almost there now. Sorry about missing your birthday lunch earlier" he says, squeezing her hand and offering an apologetic smile.

"That's alright, Peter, I know you have a big day tomorrow. I know I don't know much about football, but would you like to try it out on me?"

"Okay, if you're sure...AND THERE IT IS! SEVENTY YEARS IN THE MAKING! FOR TWO THOUSAND, FIVE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY SIX DAYS THEY HAVE PATIENTLY WAITED AT THE CATHEDRAL ON THE HILL, THE CHURCH OF ST JAMES'S, BUT NOW THE GEORDIE NATION FINALLY HAS A NEW KING, KING EDDIE HOWE, KING OF THE GEORDIES! THE BIGG MARKET JUST GOT A LITTLE BIT BIGGER! FIRE UP THE STOTTIES MAM! WE'RE BRINGING THE CUP HOME! THE TYNE, THAT PROUD RIVER OF COAL, STEEL AND THE BOAT DISCO WILL BE OVERFLOWING WITH GEORDIE TEARS TONIGHT AS KING EDDIE HOWE BRINGS A TROPHY HOME FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A LIFETIME! FROM DAN BURN TO OUSEBURN, FROM BYKER GROVE TO WEMBLEY WAY, THE TOON ARMY ARE NO LONGER MARCHING ON EMPTY STOMACHS BECAUSE THIS TEAM, THIS GEORDIE TEAM OF BLACK AND WHITE HISTORY MAKERS HAVE FED THEM A BLACK AND WHITE TROPHY! THE GHOST OF SIR BOBBY ROBSON WILL BE DRINKING BROON ALE UP IN HEAVEN TONIGHT AND RAISING A TOAST WITH SIR JACKIE MILBURN AND SIR KEVIN KEEGAN, ALTHOUGH KEVIN KEEGAN IS STILL VERY MUCH ALIVE THANK GOD! WOH ME LADS, YE SHUDDA SEEN US GANNING! ALL THE LADS AND LASSES! WELL THEY HAVE NOW! What do you think? Too much?"

"No Peter, I think it's just right. Well done."

I'm pretty sure the commentators at Sky are asked to do it this way, they all do it now and it's not something Peter Drurry used to do as much before he took over from Martin Tyler

Watched the highlights yesterday.

Never a truer word said on here about Drury. Insufferable, what a description.

Culture seems to more about style over substance for my liking every day. World being run by marketers and psychologists. Hype, Hype, Hype sells.

I'm always happy to celebrate LOLverpool's failings but the media do love to w@nk off Newcastle don't they? All next season it'll be 'and West Ham face Carabou Cup holders Newcastle.'

Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. He runs like a cheetah, his crosses couldn't be sweeter. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore.

Well hopefully with that cup win the media have er, blown their wad for a while.

I was quite happy for Newcastle to win yesterday, I mean 70 years without a Wembley win is quite something for a 'big' club. I mean we've had more Wembley success than them in the last 70 years!

As mentioned by the pundits it's good to have the trophies shared around clubs beyond the usual suspects. Can only hope for the same with the FA Cup this season.

What happened to Martin Tyler then?
I don't remember there being a farewell Sky annoucement or any tribute sent his way, considering he'd been working for them since it's creation. Even the old Season Review Videos back in the late 80s. World Sports Action presents...

He just... went. Unless I was asleep or something?

Martin Tyler is doing the premier league in the US and champions league I think.

I like him. He did West Ham vs Leicester and I watched it live. Poor game but the man knows what he’s doing. Can hold his own. Watford fan apparently.

For the US I raise you Tim Howard for Peter Drury.

For me you will never beat John Motson or Brian Moore.

As a kid we never knew weather to watch the FA cup final on BBC or ITV so we watched one half with each.

Great memories from a bygone era where everything seemed so much simpler.

Barry Davies was decent.

"Oh. You have to say that's magnificent."

Good point Barry.

Or friend of my dad's always commented on David Colemans simple commentary.

Incredibly, I think Drury is worse than Weaver.

Weaver may talk utter nonsense about history being written (Hull v Derby) and kings being crowned (Oxford v Preston) but at least he doesn't just shout the name of the person taking a shot every. single. time. they. take. a. shot.

It's Mohamed Salah!
It's Bruno Fernandes!
It's Sammy Koejoe!

Suffering since 1978.

Good point re. John Champion. He and Ally McCoist commentated on some internationals a while ago and they were a great combination. Insight, passion, humour and great chemistry between the two of them .

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."
