Shocking, their number two committed a tackle worse than what Colback was carded for just before half time, nothing, he then picked one up for an identical one in the second half so should have seen red, instead got subbed.
For the foul throw he had his back to it and the Lino wouldn’t have flagged if half the ground had t got on his case.
From my position in the lower loft I thought Saito had been brought down for a definite penalty.
Poor old smythy got booked for a retaliatory foul after being assaulted and nothing given.
Generally thought the ref was a prick and was all about himself.

Didn’t have an issue with Colback’s yellow - it wasn’t the worst foul to make after Varane’s poor pass- but the inconsistency was infuriating. Felt like they got a lot of soft decisions and Smyth’s yellow was baffling in the context of what he’d let off earlier especially being a first offence. The Ellerslie Road linesman was having a lovely day in the sun mainly.

Hmmm - "poor old Smythy" brings it on himself with his tiresome diving, yet another example yesterday of just getting in front of his man and throwing himself headlong to the floor despite having a chance to get away up the field. Still think he can be better than that, and I suppose if it is good enough for Harry Kane it is good enough for us. I think it was the free kick Morrison had a real chance to score from too, so I know it does benefit us, but.....

The "penalty" on Saito happened right in front of the Loft Standing and although of course we all appealed, and hoped, straight after the majority verdict was not a pen.

The ref looked like he was in two minds over the penalty, before giving them the benefit of the doubt.

On another day, with more protests and a different team, I suspect he may well have given it under pressure.

Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

Was right in front of me and I think it would’ve been a very lucky call. Felt he was looking for it after dithering slightly due to a lack of options.

Never a penalty. We had a great view of it as well . Course we appealed for it. it puts pressure on the referee. It’s part of your job as a fan even though deep down you know he’s probably right .

Like so many other refs, I thought he started off well and was good for an hour or so then just became an irritation. Seems to be a trait. The FA need to up their training schedules from an hour at a time to 90 minutes.

Ref was the usual inconsistent dross. The Ellerslie lino was something else tho', I've seen more sentient beings coming out my dogs arse.

Thing is, as usual, very similar fouls outside the box were given as free kicks.

And on the yellow cards, in the last few minutes, Pring fouled Smyth with a very similar foul to Clobacks, but surprise, surprise, no yellow card for the Bristol City man

Did anyone have a good view of the potential offside for their goal? I thought Earthy timed his run well but was not directly in line. Looked more offside from the TV highlights last night.

Don’t think so. Morrison wasn’t on his toes and it was a perfect pass and finish. Was really impressed with the whole move building up to it and it was probably the best team goal we’ve conceded all season.

Looking back at the highlights especially from a fan vlog based in Ellerslie Rd., their goal looks onside and it wasn't a pen. But he didn't book them for similar offences they booked Colback for in similar parts of the ground so was annoyed about that.

Also agree we should put pressure on ref e.g. for foul throw that no-one was giving before we erupted. Other teams' fans win them a few extra free kicks and the odd booking per match I reckon.

Colbeck and Smyth deserved their yellows but that then sets the bar. Bristol did a couple of far worse fouls that the equally warranted a yellow but none given.

From the replays they showed on QPR+ it looked to me like the defender kicked Saito on the back of his leg after he'd gone past him. A penalty. The Ref looked like he was a City fan the longer the game went on to me.

Think refs been told to take a conciliatory approach to greater strength fouls and clamping down on the sly and petulant fouls, hence Colback and Smyth getting their respective yellow cards.

Dembele gets roughed up far too easily, doesn’t make it a foul.

Problem is Dembele's own making though he loses almost every 50/50 battle simply because be is not strong enough and the refs cannot distinguish between a foul and sheer body strength winning out.Plus he is almost as bad as Smyth throwing his hands up as he is sitting down on the grass with his pride dented .
Saito ( I thought he was poor yesterday ) and Yang get some heave punishment also without much protection either but its the same issue size and strength pays off in this league.
The ref came across on my tv as pretty bad to be honest but the penalty shout on Saito I think he got right but the handball by Dickie I thought was a penalty

That’s how I saw it too. Was in G block in South Africa Road and the offsides the Ellerslie Rd were going ape about in the first half looked tight but on side to me. Wasn’t sure it was a pen either.

Ref let Nardi waste as much time as he wanted at the end included feigning injury again which a personal gripe. It’s clearly obvious he isn’t injured. He hasn’t touched the ball for about 15 minutes.
I know why we do it any I’m a complete hypocrite as I was on here a couple of weeks ago saying we were the most naive and ‘nice’ squad ever.

I just dont like it .

Nor do I. I rarely blame Marti for much, but this must be down to him. We waste far too much time, far too quickly. It got a bit lost in the victory at Oxford that our ridiculous timewasting tactics got rightfully punished by the referee for 11 minutes of injury time, just as we were wobbling too.

I know it breaks up the play blah blah blah and allows water breaks and tactics and everyone does it and we don't want to be nice losers, but I think we overdo it somewhat and it can bite us on the backside.

They say these things even themselves out over a season but when have we ever had anywhere near that amount of time added when teams do it to us?
How much time was added at wba when the keeper was down for 6 minutes to change a stud?I don’t like it either but it only seems to be us punished properly when it’s in our advantage to waste time, and we certainly aren’t any worse than other teams.
If the refs consistently punished the offenders then it might stop it,but some teams get away with more than some others for doing exactly the same.

Dickie does catch Saito but not really at an angle the ref may have seen of the assistant, but he definitely puts his thigh across Saito at a critical moment. I think VAR may have looked at that.

Never knowingly right.

I thought that he was inconsistent throughout and certainly Bristol C players had to work harder to get booked. Their no. 3 (Pring?) committed 5-6 fouls, a few of them quite cynical and petulant yet he wasn't even spoken to. Colback's one was a yellow (thanks, JV) though.

In the first half for one of our corners, Pring is literally facing Jimmy Dunne with both hands grabbing his shirt at the chest and clearly holding him back. The fact that Jimmy won the header should not change the fact that is a foul and its in the penalty area, but that seems to be fair game these days - anywhere else on the pitch, fine, but there, clearly not.

The foul by Dickie on Saito in the pen area was sooooo Dickie-esque - done for pace, trying to get back, late, clumsy - a pen. Just because Saito had off loaded the ball before there was contact matters not, there was contact and he was clearly taken down.

...and to show he wasn't bias, the Saito chance came from Min Hyeok's blatant push on their full back, with the ref looking directly at it.

Useless, like most of them still are...

Can we go out yet?

It was the inconsistencies as many have said wasn't it?
Not egregiously bad, probably a 6/10, but always going to wind people up when something is a foul one minute and not the next, or a yellow card one minute and not the next.
I didn't think the Saito thing was a penalty, but not 10 seconds later he gives them a free kick on halfway for a tiny tiny piece of contact. It really didn't take much to get a free kick in open play, every bit of contact a foul, but then as soon as you were in the box you basically had to get shot in the leg to get a penalty. The game was refereed to two sets of rules, one if you were in the area and one if you weren't.

Did the same thing not happen last week I remember a poster (sorry dont remember who) asking if the ref took some illegal drugs during the half time because his performance was
so erratic in the second half .
Against us of course pretty much the same most games this year
