| Players with great starts who then wobbled on 18:57 - Oct 6 with 1789 views | stainrods_elbow | Patrick 'Don't Call Me Dave' Agyemang must surely be at the top of the tree. Out of the blocks like there was no tomorrow, scored 8 of his 15 goals for us in his first 7 games, then only 7 more in his next 60 apps! Ended his career at the legendary Cray Valley Paper Mills (1 app, 0 goals). | |

| Players with great starts who then wobbled on 12:36 - Oct 6 by OakR | Stuart Wardley? Lots of goals first season and then faded quite quickly |
During his last season with us I saw him Captain the reserves at home to Northampton and he was head and shoulders the best player on the pitch. Northampton beat us at home the following Saturday, a real bogey team for us at the time. I remember us signing Mickey Walsh from Blackpool at a time when we were desperate for a striker. Scored on his debut and did almost nothing after that. [Post edited 17 Dec 2025 11:32]

| Players with great starts who then wobbled on 14:57 - Oct 6 by ted_hendrix | The 'word' doing the rounds was that Bruce Rioch had grabbed Spencer by the throat at Exeter FC after a friendly game. I couldn't work out his dip In performances, I thought he was an excellent player. When he scored for us at Elm Park against the fakes he came over to us fans behind the goal and declared that 'He was the Man'. There was also some Welsh bloke who played for us but ended up In prison, I thought he was good. |
For an all too short period of time John Spencer was worth the admission money alone. He was the man. Would get a place on the bench in my all time best QPR team.

He seemed unimpressed at Mike Sheron being presented as the Main Man. They played like they hated each other.

| Players with great starts who then wobbled on 17:15 - Oct 6 by CiderwithRsie | Now here's one dredged out of my mid-80s memory bank: little Mark Stein, signed at the start of the summer of 88 not long after Gary Bannister had moved on, and seemed to me a more or less like-for-like (nippy little bloke striker) replacement (though on checking, Stein wore no 10, not Banno's 9) 3 top-flight League goals in 5 starts (including one goal off the bench) plus one at the start of our League Cup run (yep, a real one, not sarcasm) by mid-October, it says here, then none in the next four games before being dropped while Ol' Man Francis started to run the show on the pitch. Just seemed to fade away after that and I sometimes forget he ever played for us. |
I think we swapped him for the Bard who wasn’t happy at Oxford. We got the better end of the deal but Stein subsequently did well at Ch*ls** and Stoke.

Funny thing is when I watch match highlights from that era now Sheron is working really hard. Just one of those things that happens, it didn't work out for him with us. I would add Karl Ready to this list.

| Players with great starts who then wobbled on 13:12 - Dec 17 with 674 views | Jeff | There's a real sliding doors moment with Shaun Wright-Philips - when we signed him he started off like an absolute train and looked very much like the SWP of Chelsea, as opposed to the shadow that played at Man City. I think it was his third or fourth game he had a goal wrongly disallowed against i think West Brom, and from there the lack of a goal sort of became this weird millstone around his neck for the next 50 odd games until he scored and didn't celebrate against Chelsea... | |

| Players with great starts who then wobbled on 13:52 - Dec 17 with 643 views | NewYorkRanger | Ethan Laird worth a shout I'd say. Although only loans I'd also add Loci Remy and Eduardo Vargas into the mix. Had high hopes for Vargas for a (short) while | |

| Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. He runs like a cheetah, his crosses couldn't be sweeter. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore. |

Scored a brace on his full debut at home to Everton and five in his first seven appearances including another brace in a 6-0 shellacking of Stoke, who graciously that season took our lowest first division points record from us. Then nada, zilch, nothing. Seemed to completely vanish once TV left and didn't play in the 84-85 season at all (injured?) before we sold him at the end of that season to Oxford.

Yes something was alleged against him but not sure whatever came of it. In any case he carried on playing till 2018. Real shame as I thought he was a great defender. "Pressure he absorbs, cos his name is Terrell Forbes..."

He and Shaun Dyke were cleared of sexual assault of a 15 year old girl in 2005. I remember him as another one who liked to wear gloves when it was cold - or even when it wasn't. Which always puts me off a player for some reason.

| Players with great starts who then wobbled on 15:31 - Dec 17 with 547 views | elnombre | Ravel Morrison - 6 in 15 for us on loan, in more of a death-spiral than a wobble, wound up in the UAE Second Division having scored 18 more across 12 years. | | | |

| Players with great starts who then wobbled on 16:06 - Dec 17 with 500 views | dmm | Have to give the legend that is Samba Diakite a mention. Okay he was more wobble than great, but it could be argued that it depends on how you look at it. To be sent off 30 minutes into his debut was pretty amazing. As was scoring against Arsenal in a win against them. Alas, the club shipped him out on loan to Watford and then Ittihad to reduce the death toll of our opponents. Still, it was entertaining while it lasted. | | | |

I remember his performance at the Emirates in a 1-0 defeat very well. Part pantomime horse, part audition for Rush Hour 2

| Players with great starts who then wobbled on 12:14 - Oct 6 by CiderwithRsie | Great call. That day at Upton Park I think we all knew we were looking at a special team but for me on that day Brock stood out even more than Parker and Mark Dennis because he pulled the strings that made the attack purr. Memory is hazy but I think he got injured just after the Liverpool defeat and in his absence we went into a bit of free fall in November (as per bleeding usual). I remember praying for his return but when it happened it was all a bit meh. |
Remember walking out of the Dell after a kevin Brock free kick had kept us top of the league singing "Kevin Brock is magic". I think the song may have been stolen by another player a few years later 🤔
