Frey must be on his way this month so we needed a third striker. Kone's been played to death. Once Burrell has returned I'd imagine he'll play off the bench, for a while at least.

Looks like the lad is one for the present and, hopefully, one for the future.

If Frey is on his way, best send him off now so he'll get there before the end of the month.

Unless he's put on a growth spurt, he's listed as 5' 10" on a number of footy stat sites.

Edit - I found no mention of him living in the Borough, only that he had been born in it.

Have you seen any photos of him? He's definitely 6' 4".

Does make me laugh , certain people on some of the QPR Facebook groups have confidently written him off, I will confidently bet that they hadn’t even heard of him until we were linked.

Is he any good?

And is this a vote of no confidence in Kone?

I think he is in as a replacement for Frey rather than having no confidence in Kone.

With Burrell bring injured for at least another 6 weeks singing another striker was vital if QPR are to stay competitive in the top half this season.

I'd never heard of Burrell either, but he has been a big success until hus injury, so here's hoping the same with Obikwu.

He has height and pace, so can help out against Wrexham on Saturday, most probably as a sub coming on for Kone (who must be tired having played so many matches without a break).

Neither did I, it's just a message to those writing a player off without giving them a chance. Much prefer us giving a platform to young hungry players compared to the mercenary has beens of the past

Its a 50 50 signing, but have been happy with the clubs overall recruitment strategy the past couple of seasons and perhaps time to give Nourry and Belk some praise and only a few out and out mistakes made.

Zan Celar is still our player but i think the fact we have adapted our model to picking up players with experience in the leagues below us in this country as opposed to obscure divisions within middle Europe. Thats positive.

Definitely encouraged by his interview. Looks genuinely excited to be here. Players do need to be hungry to listen and learn to succeed and seems the selling point of some of Stephans previous youngsters, he has developed, seems to have had an impact also.

That's the nature of the game these days isn't it, try and find a 10m sale and that can fund 20 of these types. There's inevitably going to be misses as all clubs will never have 100% success with transfers, but especially with our budget it's all about finding these low risk, high potential players.

With Obikwu seems like he already has a great physical profile, encouraging personality as you say, does seem to be things the club are looking at more now. I just hope fans can be patient as I'd imagine he may be technically quite raw and will need the experience / coaching. The unknown is quite exciting, looking forward to seeing what he can do

Bit harsh. Dykes has scored 60 goals in 331 appearances north and south of the border whilst Obikwu has 13 in 52. I’ve got a good feeling about this lad.

A lot of Obikwu’s appearances have been off the bench so that ratio is actually a bit deceptive. Across his two loan spells at Grimsby and Lincoln he’s averaged a goal every 175 minutes, essentially a goal every 2 matches.

Mel Johnson's son, Jamie, is Head of Scouting at Cov and would have bought Obikwu, and Cov's recruitment has been very good.

Not sure what that means, or whether he'd have been involved in the decision to sell him, but it's an interesting little side-note.

Ah interesting, didn't know Mel's son had followed him into it.

Had a nice chat with Mel at the 03/04 promotion get together a couple of years ago, lovely fella.

Interesting Brian. Maybe Cov are at that place where they can afford to bring in the finished article. We’re still having to blend experience and raw material.

As others have said I really like the fact he’s got pace and strength to balance out our slower or smaller players. Definitely attributes we need in the squad especially as we’re missing Burrell’s pace at the moment. Would love to know if Julien has any say in the kind of player he wants in even if he doesn’t actually scout them himself. I’m guessing he gets some sort of input.

Hope this one pays off. Would love him to be anywhere near as good as Burrell.

From a Grimsby colleague:

Was very good for us, but unfortunately suffered with injuries during his time with us
that was in league 2 though, so interesting to see how he does for you in the Championship, sure he's pretty young.

Rather alarmingly Celar only appears to have featured in 10 games on loan scoring zero goals. So that looks like it's going to be a fairly heavy loss for us as and when we offload him.

I was rather hoping that he's find his form abroad at F. Düsseldorf but he's barely played, bar a hattrick in pre-season.

It looks like his spell at Lugano was very much the exception to the rule, as it has mostly been for Kelman, but Kelman was possibly always the better option?

Let's hope Obikwu hits the ground running here as Burrell did.

Never knowingly right.

Apparently "Zan Celar" is Slovene for "Mike Sheron".

Feels like this transfer has gone a bit under the radar. No "signing profile" article here on LFW, Hoopsa didn't do his usual bit on new signings, Hoops&Dreams I don't think said much about it either.

The new player signing articles Clive and his crew do is my favourite content on here. (hint hint)

I feel like I remember someone saying in an interview that him, Belk and Nourry meet fairly regularly to discuss transfers, with the manager part of the 'profile-building' phase.

Might be misremembering though
