The 3 sides of a match thread at Oxford 09:39 - Jan 20 with 31045 viewsE17hoop

Someone had to start it.

I just reread Clive's match report for the home game and asked myself why I'm going to this again tonight.

Bare bones, DS players filling the bench, Handsome Ronnie back? He's bound to score in the 1-0 win.

It's always noisiest at the shallow end

Think Vancouver was spot on... the only winner tonight seems to be the weather...

It is not conducive for playing football, but we're the only team trying to play it

Oxford have that stink of relegation...

Starting to agree about Smyth being on the wrong wing... he must have had 5 clear runs and the only positive play was the shot...

I can see us this half getting a winner... with the wind behind us

Dembele the only one playing with an ounce of quality. The lack of threat from both teams is astonishing.

Insert two re***** fighting meme

I’m quite easily pleased but that was better than Stoke….

Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

Oxford are completely here for the taking. They look crap. Missimg Chair and Burrell big time.

Has the air of Sunday League this: conditions, quality, and approach play.

The only 3 players who have looked remotely comfortable out there to me are Madsen, Cook and Smyth.

Everyone else is treating the football like it is a grenade.

Kone is playing like he had an exceptional lunch.

Plus Dembele, surely. Aside from that awful shot he's been our only spark.

Otherwise, my word. Kone's attempt to sprint on to that decent pass into the box was Freyesque.

They can’t possibly be that bad again and I’m not confident we can be much better. Kone is so, so far off it he really needs to be hooked. The other attacking players have been… ok which is a marked improvement.

Burrell’s injury was badly managed, timed and completely predictable in so many ways.

He will probably be the difference in the seasons end outcome for me.

Dembele has still failed to control basic passes and made the ball look like a bouncing bomb at time, and he blazed that shot over. Also, our promising attacks and only shot on target came down Smyth’s side.

Has there been a law introduced that says no player is allowed to dribble round an opposition player?

Ball control seems to be an alien concept.

Maybe on a couple of occasions, Hunter, but to be fair to him I thought he looked really positive and creative out there. Or maybe I am seeing things!

57% pass completion in the attacking 3rd is far from ideal. 55% for them mind. Means 2/3s of the pitch the ball is being retained only just over half the time by the attacking side every time they pass it. Special. #lottery

Summary of the first half - the nillest nil-nil that ever nil-nilled

Dire conditions , but that is a pathetic attempt to play football from both sides.

Neither seem capable of making more than 3 passes together to a teammate. The shooting is poor, only Smyth has managed to force a save from a keeper.

Smyth should be on the right wing, but with Esquerdinha at left back he needs to stay on the left to provide defensive duties. No way would Dembele be of use defensively if they switched.

I think Stephan will need to make changes, but he will probably wait until the 60-70 minute mark to do so.

For some strange reason I feel very comfortable with this game.

But despite Oxford being beyond appalling, we have not done a great deal.

They played the wind awfully.

i was considering that playing with the wind in the second half and take a few potshots that gather pace, we should win. Esquerdinha Samba time perhaps or a Madsen special. Yes as others have said Chairs accuracy from long range would be ideal.

Is it an advantage with the wind - not sure after that half.

But we have to win this. They are truly awful. But sadly at the moment, we are only slightly better.

Just do not look scoring AGAIN. Poor game; maybe 5 mins of quality football in that dirge.

As ever the oppo is diabolical. This is all about who can be less crap than the oppo.

*sigh* it never used to be this way. This was not what was sold to me in the late 70s, 80s and 90s...

Can we go out yet?

I'm beginning to wonder what's happened to Koné. Is it just that he's been asked to play deeper that shows up his lack of speed?

I don't think I've seen a 22 yr old footballer so slow.

Pleased we didn’t concede any corners with that wind blowing.

Advantage us, this half?

I often wonder if there’s a French TV show called ‘a place in the wind and rain.’

Maybe Jules feels he’s on it at times.

Yikes, Brannagan heads their long throw just over.

He has a serious problem judging headers IMO.

It looks like he’s headed it but mostly - he hasn’t.
