| Summer transfer rumours 2026 on 10:05 - Aug 25 by Hunterhoop | If Watford are genuinely interested, then great. As I have repeatedly said above, now is a good time to sell for a variety of reasons. All I’ve said is don’t believe everything you read in the press and on social media related to QPR. I do not see how Watford benefit in the slightest from leaking who their targets are. The agents of the players will already be aware. QPR do everything they can to try to ensure no one knows who they are targeting. That is the name of the game for everyone bar the biggest sides in the world. I’d very much expect the club have had a hand in this/approved it, because they want to drum up interest. Nothing wrong with that, is there? |
The original story came from a Sky Sports journalist covering transfers who listed about nine different Watford targets, with JCS quite low down the list. That list would've been compiled from someone connected to Watford, not QPR, as all kinds of names on there. WLS later corroborated the story.

| Summer transfer rumours 2026 on 09:28 - Aug 25 by francisbowles | He's a quality footballer, only sell if financially it makes a significant difference and a similar replacement is identified, available and affordable. We are supposed to be building a squad that has two good players for every position, can rotate considerably more and better than previous seasons, as well as, mounting a serious challenge this season. JCS, if he stays, will have to be carefully managed and used sparingly but is better than the other options. In some ways, he's even better than Edwards in that LCB position as he is naturally a 'leftie'. Morrison seems to have regressed, Akindelini probably isn't ready, Cirkin and Lamptey have yet to prove their fitness and durability and it looks like Kemper will be out mid to long term. |
I think we need a big MF CB as back up at least for Dunne, and to be able to play alongside him when we are playing the type of opposition that have huge strikers and will bombard us aerially whenever they can. I don't rate Morrisson and doubt Akindelini is ready for this season. If we sell JCS ( we should if we get about £ 2 M) that need for a new CB becomes greater, and as Edwards would be required at CB more often we'd have a greater need for another central midfield player.

And no one has spoken to QPR, and our PR agency hasn’t been in contact with Sky or WLS before, or immediately afterwards? I think the club are playing this well. I simply don’t believe this is news to them and they haven’t had a hand in this becoming public knowledge. Whether we accept an offer from Watford or anyone else is a different matter. Depends what it is I suppose. His salary off the books would be massive. Would be guessing they’d be aiming for a fee similar to Field given age and injury record.

Of course the club has spoken to the journalist. Of course it's not news to them. Readers are the very last to know. This is how journalism works. QPR have no doubt also spoken to Watford or agents first, before anyone, and told them the negotiating price. They probably didn't originally brief the journalist though, as the story is Watford-focussed. But why does any of this matter? All that's interesting is that someone probably quite attractive to the player wishes to buy JCS.

However the story reached the public arena, the decision to sell is fairly straightforward. When (if) fit, JCS is the best CB at the club, one of the best in the division, but that is all too rare. Not only is he missing for huge chunks of a season, but then takes several more games to get back up to speed. Was it not early last season that he only last 11 minutes of a comeback development match? There is the possibility too that some of it is psychological. We have taken on another couple of players this summer with injury issues, if we can get one off our books in an area where we have a lot of cover albeit of lesser quality, then anything in and around 1m we should take. Remember, he is probably one of the higher paid members of the squad also, so that could be a significant saving. When Kemper comes back he can also play left side CB as Cirkin will probably have made LB his own by that stage.

Well, I was trying to be subtle and allow people to take what they inferred. But since even you are asking, TK1, I probably failed there. So, to spell it out: Positive points / Praise of the club: 1) They are being (pro)active and a little Machiavellian in the transfer market, which is definitely in the best interests of the club 2) They are actively seeking to address a mistake (awarding the big extension) and free up the salary 3) They are trying to bring in some transfer fees which will help financially but also help us potentially bring in one more before the transfer window closes, which might help us get into that top 8. And mistakes happen, not all decisions on extensions and signings work out. Criticisms / Points to be aware of: 1) that the club is using a PR firm and if you think that is just restricted to mass media, you’d be a tad naive. They’re active on social media and message boards. And their activity is in the best interests of the leadership, not the club. 2) that only 1-2 years ago the club were signing long term extensions with players they explicitly said were to be the long term spine of the side, but who are now deemed to be surplus to requirements (Field and JCS). Now, football changes and you have to adapt, but it rather makes a mockery of any long term strategy; we’re playing it by ear each season with one overriding principle (to player trade using data - like everyone else). 3) highlighting once again the issue/risk with player availability in a model where you stick players on long contracts… On balance, I think this is a good thing, hence what I said earlier. You can’t go back in time. I hope we can get a fee. If we can’t it’ll just be another player we’ll need to sell in Jan or June. If those points aren’t relevant to people, then I’ll accept that and step back. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I'm guessing the interest stems from Watford, where they shed a few defenders. 1 article said they have 7 possibles on their wish list. my reading would make JCS 7/7. If I'm right he's going nowhere.

I was a critic of giving JCS an extension given his injury record but IF they get a decent fee for him it would be hard to still call it a mistake. I wonder if part of the problem with JCS was we were always desperate for him to play and in the past I suspect we have rushed players back and over-played them. Whereas for our next game it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Edwards dropped back in defence, Madsen played in midfield and JCS was rotated to the bench. Might calling the likes of Field, JCS etc "the spine of the team" also have been good PR? Nothing wrong with talking up your assets. Looking at Clive's season previews it seems that most clubs have a big churn of players. Surely that's just a result of improving your squad. To me the important positive is there does seem to be interest in our players finally (and not all of that looks like PR coming out of our club, although that might be an element of it). Edwards, Kone, Dune, Varane (maybe tenuous that one) and now JCS have all been linked. Fully accept that talk is easy and the proof will be in a sale. But a couple of years ago we often couldn't give our players away! Where I do agree is think we probably do need to ship out some more players. Leaving aside any biggish transfers, the following are probably surplus: Lakarche Esquire Morgan Lloyd And its gone a bit quiet there. Maybe one or two more on top of that needs to go. All are probably on (relatively) modest wages, but nevertheless their departures would either help our P&L or as you say help us to bring in a midfielder.

we could have a ready made replacement for him if he was to leave kempner hes solid as hell left footed , only down side is lack of pace but with cipkin coming in at left back that wont be such and issue esp if lamptey is to be the starting left back . leave any money raised to go into the fabled box to box midfiled player we are desperatly in need of

Have a pretty solid understanding of how PR/journalism works. (Am painfully aware of the anonymous social accounts doing club's bidding, too). I think in this case it's more useful for Watford to get the story of how many CBs they are targeting out there, so that the players and agents who've they've sounded out know just how spoilt they are for choice. Having it out there is not bad for Rangers either. Agree, QPR have a lot they need to get off the books and JCS as a high earner is probably near top of the list - may not be coincidence he's playing full matches at the expense of Edwards at CB. But may be! Time will tell. A fee for player this summer would be useful.

What nonsense. Easily the best CB we have and been really unlucky with a couple of minor injuries. Engines running BTW......Just dont let him trip over on the way.

Edwards can obviously drop back. Morrison is still around somewhere. We’re quite well stocked at centre-half if it’s genuine. Good player, of course, but absolutely take the dough for a probably good earner more likely to play five than 45 games.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to that. I mean there's some fella called Justin Obikwu right at the end of it so they're just making it up as they go along. However........ That's a concern on Morrison. I quite like him and thought he'd pick his form up after a poor back nine last year.

Clubs so desperate to sell they’ll start under bidding each other as to what they’re willing to sell for? “1m? Ours is £500k’ No, have ours for £300k, Watford!” QPR have an external PR firm on the books, gents… |
In fairness that’s GCSE economics 1.1; minimal demand, high supply = reduced price.
