Wouldn’t have made any difference but that penalty decision was shocking . From loft standing we could see it was the wrong decision. Abysmal refereeing from another ref who doesn’t cut it this level . Not sure what his linos were doing .

I would have expected the linesman at the other end to have had a say on that one. From my seat it looked a penalty, but you could tell everybody in Q, P and safe standing were upset with it and the lino on the Ellerslie Road side has that view.
It's a useful distraction. Stephan spent two of his five minutes talking about the referee, said he'd never seen a penalty like it in his entire career (come on now). If you thought the referee was the problem last night I think you're kidding yourself.
Of more concern Tylon Smith has now given away two penalties in two Championship outings. Why is he going to ground like that? Stay on your feet. Where's the 'player development' in somebody coming on against Boro, giving away a daft pen, then coming on in his next appearance and doing a similarly daft tackle close to the box? |  | | |

I'm saying the linesman on the Ellerslie side of the pitch would have a good view of it, to help the referee.
The linesman on the SAR side, while being in the same half as the incident, would not have had as good a view, I don't think. | |

He was the one who tipped off the ref to the (obvious) Kone handball, but kept his mouth shut on the bigger decision. He had the same view I did, unless he had his eyes shut, I couldn’t believe it was given. The ref seemed to react to the noise of the Swansea fans, who would have been angry about the clear-out. |  | | |

Of course he/she can moan. It was miles outside the box and apparently the lino told him and he over-ruled him.

Another referee fairly determined to lose control of the deadest of dead rubbers. Complete farce when we were attacking at the end and he gave a free kick for whatever happened near the dugout.
But it shouldn’t distract from another appalling, half-arsed performance. Millwall you can mitigate with it meaning so much to them. This was another mid-table slop team with nothing to play for and it was like they had 13 players. | | | |

I was genuinely pleased about it.
Once in a Blue Moon you're always going to get historically awful decisions like this - they come around. The knack is to have them in games which are utterly irrelevant and that was the case for us.
Imagine if that had been a play-off semi-final next season? Or a relegation six pointer (perish such a thought)?
No harm done, and the incident (imho) in no way affected the outcome - we'd have lost anyway and deserved to.
I'd say the decision, in reality, was the very least of our worries last night. |

He'd made a pretty Hail Mary tackle inside the box a few moments before though. He commits himself very easily.

Absolutely right. He guessed which isn’t good enough. Where we are in the paddocks it looked instinctively too far over to be a pen and so it proved.
But the advantage decision was worse in a way than a snap wrong decision because he just doesn’t have a feel for the game Advantage is applied when a foul or misconduct occurs, but the referee decides not to stop play immediately because the team that was fouled will benefit more if play continues.. That’s in the LOTG and we were definitely disadvantaged by the decision to stop play just to book their player. The only way we might have benefitted is if he sent him off. I’m assuming the fourth official alerted him to the fisticuffs but he should have played on and then brought it back to book him. Poor.
Of course we didn’t play well enough to get anything out of the match but that doesn’t change the fact the ref was poor for two big decisions (the latter one because for once we had our tails up a bit and had beaten their high press). And while we tend to think we don’t deserve things out of matches when we play poorly, in fact that happens all the time in matches so we shouldn’t be phlegmatic when we play badly but are affected by the ref’s decisions - case in point was Wrexham at home where they were dire in the first half but ended up with three points. I don’t think their fans would be saying they didn’t deserve them. [Post edited 22 Apr 11:53]

I don't care that 'swansea deserved the win anyway' or any other similar platitudes, it was an awful decision. At 1-0 we could have snatched a point, however undeserved. We've won many games we've not deserved to win and lost many games that we didn't and I suspect the same is over every other football club. |  | | |

I remembered Danny Maddix conceding a late penalty at Anfield, they won the game and the league with it.
Only thing is, the tackle was well outside the box, Danny ripped up the turf in the challenge, he left a fecking marker for the ref.
After the game our manager - Don Howe? - came over to applaud us, and pointed to the missing clump of turf.

I remember that one and also one where Rufus Brevett was pushed in the box, fell onto the ball and the ref gave it for handball as his hand touched the ball.
Opposition never got a penalty up there either. Greasvie used to say a player had to be hung, drawn and quartered to get a penalty and even then only after a consultation with the linesman.
But yesterday's decision (along with many others) was wrong. The big clue was that the player's legs were outside the box when he landed! | | | |

That's because they pick when to get involved. Remember the foul on Mbengue against Bristol City right in front of the linesman. The free kick was astonishingly given against Mbengue who then got booked for his complaints. | | | |
