| Club confirm Hamer, Nardi, Hayden departs on 06:28 - May 6 by numptydumpty | Nardi could have improved his game, this season. He was decent last season. Walsh started from a low level of performance and stayed there all season. He is never going to be sold for much more than a million, so that reason for playing him consistently doesn't add up either. Even, if he is a level above in training, its not translating in game time. Shockingly bad treatment of Paul Nardi, by the club for me. Almost, as if Joe Walsh has some "Epstein" type dirt on the QPR hierarchy that none of the public are aware of !!! We will see if they have learnt lessons but for me, i am expecting another mediocre season of Walsh in goal ahead. Its not fair on him either tbf. Whatever the real reasons, we will never know. But its all a bit twilight zone for me. Weird and a total own goal by the club on all levels !! [Post edited 6 May 6:37]

By the 2nd half of last season oppositions had realised that Nardi never came off his line. It was a fundamental weakness and they began to exploit it. At 31 his approach was so well embedded that no GK Coach was going to rectify it. Can Walsh improve? I think he has over the course of the season. He's quick off his line, more commanding (cf Nardi) around the 6 yd box, spreads himself well (Leif Davis can testify to that), decent with both feet. Some heart in mouth moments and I'm not sure if he yells enough at the defenders in front of him. The stats say he was one of the worst in the Championship. How much of that is skewed by the Coventry debacle?. if he is replaced as #1 what is he going to want? I can't see a 23 yo with 30+ starts in the Championship settling for warming the bench.

It’s not people skills. It’s about fundamentally being a decent person, a good human being. The way people treat others is a direct reflection of their own character. [Post edited 6 May 10:33]

"CN needs to better his people skills". Indeed, and the standard of his communications with the fans too. It's woeful. I don't want Hoos to leave, I want him alert and paying attention to this stuff, ready to step in and help Nourry get it right, or usher him out of the door if he refuses to change.

I think Hoos is still sufficiently involved - and anyway if he did appoint Nourry, like any good boss if he realises he's made a mistake hiring him, then he'll rectify it. Let's see shall we?

The Walsh questions...I didn't find it that odd. They were just trying to underline the collegiate spirit among keepers. They all appear good lads. I bet that's not always the case. (*cough* Picken *cough*) But the takeaway from the Walsh questions is, I think, that he's staying and I imagine going to be number one, or vying for that with Cooper. They'll probably enlist a senior keeper to challenge (Dieng?) but I don't believe they'll give up on him yet. That felt clear from the questioning. Some of your favourite transfers may not be available. Others, such as in midfield, will be.

I meant a Dieng-age keeper. Though the club definitely did talk to him last season to perform the Nardi/Hamer role, which is the one up for grabs. Walsh and Cooper are both contracted next season so would need to be sold to be replaced by a first choice. We'll be signing a second or third choice. [Post edited 6 May 13:42]

All of this. Nandi was never going to improve. I would say he was treated ‘strangely’ rather than ‘shabbily’ I say this because he wasn’t singled out for poor treatment. Hamer, the Brazilian lad, Kolli to name but three, went from starting a game to not making the match day squad in the following game, at various times in the season. I think Nardi got ‘found out’ in the first series of games last season (24/25) and by the return fixtures he was struggling. When he played this season his stats were poor, although I have sympathy for suddenly being parachuted into a game. I fully expect Walsh to be first choice next season, or what was the point of this season? If not, he will surely leave.
| Club confirm Hamer, Nardi, Hayden departs... on 14:06 - May 6 with 2212 views | gazza1 | 1 - Nardi, I did not see loads of grief aimed his way last season and imho is no worse than Walsh. 2 - Hayden, as I said in another post, he was 'bang average' last season but many wanted the Club to resign him, they got their way but was pretty poor this season and a very poor signing indeed. Re his wages, it would not, or I have never seen it before, seen players boasting, or even talking about what they are earning so it would not be an issue. 3 - Hamer, strange signing considering his age, etc, etc.......sign him for a month if we were struggling with injuries but to keep him for so long is a waste of money and not following our principles within the Club re 'Development'. No issues with any of the departures. | | | |

For the xG afficonados, we had an xG conceded of 57.4 (11th) and a total conceded of 73 (23rd). The problem is unequivocally in between the sticks.
| Club confirm Hamer, Nardi, Hayden departs... on 14:45 - May 6 with 2103 views | LazyFan | We have some very older experienced Champions players with apperances in the region of: Chair - 240+ 28Y Field - 200+ 27Y Dunne - 190+ 28Y Smyth - 130+ 28Y So, experience wise we just need a GK for the spine of the team. And of course a LB and box to box DMC. 4 (GK, GK, CD and DMC) out and 3 needed in (GK, LB and DMC). Possible sales in assests of: Madsen Varane Kolli Field LLoyd Whereby we would only need to replace Madsen and Varane if sold. We got lucky, four of our forwards came good. Burrell, Kone, Bennie and Kolli. We loaned out LLoyd and bought in another for the future who did not play yet. So, forwards wise we have refreshed that from the season before. Just need ... GK, LB and box-to-box DMC | |

| Club confirm Hamer, Nardi, Hayden departs... on 11:04 - May 5 by nix | Nardi had one of the worst save percentages in the Championship last season - around 65%. The best keepers had over 75% and James Trafford had 84%! The only GK playing over 30 matches last season who had a worse save percentage was James Beadle. It’s true Nardi did have a quite high number of saves to make butt others also did who had a better save percentage. With that plus the weakness in claiming crosses it’s hard to argue for renewing his contract. The thing is I think when you have a not great keeper you maybe don’t notice the goals they fail to prevent by not claiming balls in the six yard box or making high claims or bog standard saves. And then you notice how many saves or claims the other keeper makes and you think maybe ours just isn’t good enough. How often do I think the oppo GK has had a stormer but maybe that’s just normal…. |
Good point here. It mystifies me why the coaching staff are not identifying Joe's lack of presence in the Pen. box as a vulnerability. Can appreciate that it's never an easy judgement call to come off the line...but it really feels that many of the goals this season could have been prevented if Walsh 'bossed' his domain a bit better.

I'm something of an xG sceptic but disregarding that, I don't think you can infer that from one metric. However, shots against are easy enough to find and we didn't do as badly as I thought - 15th, because of course. Shots against on target, 12th. Set against the goals conceded position (23rd) that definitely starts to look like a keeper problem. Did I imagine all those times our midfield did a Marie Celeste? [Post edited 6 May 16:36]

Unsure if your accusations of Nourry haters includes myself, Superhoops2808. Myself, there are many things the new hierarchy has done well, but equally many that are not so good. Overall, we are just about in the positive for me with Nourry and his team. i personally was commenting on this thread my views with regards to Nardi, so relevant i thought to the thread and feel he has been poorly treated by the club also. This train wreck of an exit interview, also for me was a bad PR own goal. So felt was relevant to this particular thread ie the hierarchies very poor PR led stuff IMO and the comms teams weird non statements and non interviews and masking of injuries and times out and false returning from injuries timescales and information. It could be done so much better than it is, as they have a habit of foot in mouth announcements that attempt to appease the fans and do the exact opposite. And again thats just my view of what i see. And this situation with Nardi highlights this. Again just an opinion. Obviously, its fine for others to have a different take on it. Beige as opposed to Chestnut, Cream as opposed to White !!!!! We all just wish for a decent and more succesful club, but we are allowed to have our own independent viewpoints of how we get there and what we feel gets us there and point out shortcomings as we see fit. At the moment he is not commanding enough, does not organise his defence as a goalkeeper should parries/fumbles balls that he should hold and his distribution is not great. He really should have gone out on loan to gain the necessary experience. His being put in the number one slot before he is ready is not his fault but he does not inspire confidence with his performances. Goalkeepers mature later than most outfield positions and you have to be something special to shine when young and unfortunately he is not. Nourry needs to accept that and bite the bullet and bring in an experienced keeper - it is a key position especially in the championship - it’s nothing against Walsh but you can’t hide between the sticks or be covered by others like outfield players can be. At times it did look like the parting of the Red Sea when teams ran at us or passed incisively.: maybe not just the midfield but also the wingers weren’t always doing their jobs. I did think it always made a difference when Smyth was on because he would make it more difficult for the oppo attack and just be a nuisance and slow them down. It made a difference with the quality of the shots our keepers faced from long distance. Seemingly more average players can score when not pressed or rushed but much harder to take that shot under pressure and quickly.
