With goalkeepers I like to look at the goals prevented stat which is basically xG on target minus the number of goals conceded. Walsh this season was at -6.4 while Bryn is at -6.6 which flatters Walsh because he only played half as many games.
Previously we've had Begovic at -7.8 and Nardi at -3.4 playing nearly every game in the season, so it does suggest Walsh is worse than these.
Jamie Cumming always comes out well in these stats (+9.8, +3.3), so with Oxford relegated we should probably be looking at someone like him, still young but with plenty of games, to come in and take the number 1 spot. Allow Cooper to challenge him for his place and send Walsh out on loan. |

I thought it was a good and sincere interview and, judging from Nardi, I imagine he may well have asked to do it rather than being press ganged.
The Walsh questions...I didn't find it that odd. They were just trying to underline the collegiate spirit among keepers. They all appear good lads. I bet that's not always the case. (*cough* Picken *cough*)
But the takeaway from the Walsh questions is, I think, that he's staying and I imagine going to be number one, or vying for that with Cooper. They'll probably enlist a senior keeper to challenge (Dieng?) but I don't believe they'll give up on him yet. That felt clear from the questioning.

Well tbf he may be of that level, for fairness you could compare his stats for two seasons at Rotherham in the championship ending with relegation to that of Cumming in his two seasons at Oxford in the championship ending in relegation.

I think you are right. He will either be our number one or not here at all. I know there is evidence to support Clive’s theory of him being a ‘serial’ number two, as he has done that up until this season just gone. However, now that he has got a taste of being first choice, I can’t see him wanting to relinquish that. The only way that might work is if himself and Cooper were both vying for the jersey equally and we rotated like the season just over. But if we were to bring in a recognised number one, like Nardi, I couldn’t see Walsh hanging around. | | | |

as said before i might also help is wlash had the same two impact inuiires allowng playing in fron if him every week , he did have a decent run when we had cook and dunne in front of him when we concced no goals around the oxford game think it was four games non conceeded which happened to be the same time we didnt change the centre back partnerships.
walsh i dontt think is the long term ansa but he gets beaten with a shitty stick sometimes when its not down to him , most of the time we conceed down to either the midfield dont track players , varanne being the main culprit on this and center backs being changed every week or so , most solid defences and keepers need to know what the player is going to do in front of him to be sucesful , will he clear it before it reahed the keepr will he leave it , in most of our casesour defenders leave it then blame the person next to them .

I think we need competition for the No.1 spot, whilst saying the spot is yours whatever happens may settle some nerves for Walsh in his first full season, it can't continue indefinitely. He was below the standard required this season so we should look for a replacement with more experience. On that basis his options should be to go and get that experience and come back to fight for his spot the following season or if that's unacceptable to him he should be looking for a permanent move.
What wouldn't help anyone is bringing in a better keeper (which we should be looking to do) and Walsh sitting on the bench for a full season here. Cooper has gone and got the experience that arguably puts him in a better position to fight for the No.1 spot against any new arrival than Walsh. He may not like that, but that should be his challenge to overcome to earn his place. | | | |

Cooper only played eight games for Wednesday. Partly because of injury and also because he was at Barnsley for the first half of the season. However, his save percentage at Wednesday was 68.9% which was better than our other keepers:
