I think we have a good basis but we could get derailed by injuries. Mad Dog will start at RB, but I'm not convinced Adamson will be good enough. Even as a backup. Could get round that by moving Dunne or Edwards to RB and using the 3/4 backup CBs. Larkeche and Esquerdinha are OK covering Kemper but you wouldn't want them playing week in, week out.

Varane/Madsen/Morgan are a reasonable DCM choice but I'm not convinced about possible backups.

For me, RB, LB and CM are positions in desperate need of recruitment.

I agree with you regarding Adamson and hope to see a new RB, not only cover but as competition for a starting berth. Mbengue worries me.

Come September, I think we'll see both Larkeche and Esquerdinha have departed and another new LB come in.

It's crystal clear we're very light in CM, and again, I'm sure we'll see new blood in there. I'm keeping a close eye on how Alemayehu does in preseason. He might just prove good enough to be included in the squad as cover.

Ziyad Larkeche has featured in the socials recently so maybe he's not going anywhere and I actually dont mind him as a back up.

Cant see where Kealey Adamson fits now.

If we bring in two new CM's I can see Varane going.

Ronnie for £10m just as the window shuts? Plenty of other options for CB but none as good.

I think you can add Isak Alemayehu to your squad. I would say he is more likely to play than at least 8 of the named players.

I don't think some, if not all, of these will make the squad: Kealey Adamson, Ziyad Larkeche, Esquerdinha, Tylon Smith, Timothy Akindileni, Jaylan Pearman, Rayan Kolli, Alfie Lloyd.

So with Morgan being under 21, that would bring the squad number down to under 25.

For all the criticsm that Nourry and Belk get (some deserved but not all), it does feel like a solid squad now. The biggest weaknesses have been addressed. The depth is better across the board. I think most of us agree that another CM or two would.be nice, but this has quietly been a decent summer.

And if you compare the squad to the one Nourry inherited, there has been a massive overhaul in less than 3 years.

And given the state of it that summer under Ainsworth, it was always going to take a few recruitment cycles and transfer windows to sort it out. You were never going to take that team that lost 4-0 at Watford and sort it out in one go.

Time for progress up the league and in the cups now though. We've spent money, we've redone the whole squad (only Dunne, Chair, JCS and Smyth remain, Dunne nearly went to Sheff Utd and two of them are probably only here because they're too injured to move on) so let's start to see some movement onwards and upwards now.

Yes it already looks like our best squad since our return to this division.

The only comparable squads were flattered by loans in key positions and there wasn’t the strength in depth.

To me the big question this season is fitness, we will only make significant progress if we don’t have four of five key players out week after week.

maybe the club have had enough of him being on the verge of being a reg sqaud player and he not getting the hint to add that extra 10% as well hes been around the squad for three seasons now , last two preseasons hes not been involved in the build up , far as we know this seasin isnt an injury problem.

As I've said in the Lamptey piece it's a huge season in that regard. If we've spent all this money and done this huge squad revamp and it stays steadfastly 13/14/15th because the injury situation doesn't improve then they'd deserve criticism.

You may be right about how the club views him but I don't know any details.

What I do know is Bennie is not a better player. Kolli's stats are much better - 53 appearances, 9 goals, 3 assists. Bennie's are - 29 appearances, 1 goal, 1 assist.

I'm sorry to be an annoying ITK, but I can't say as it would compromise someone. There have been plenty of similar rumours on here.

I watched Kolli come through the DS and really enjoyed seeing one of ours make it to the first team. I still hope things work out and he stays.

If you go back to posts outlining the weaknesses, I feel we've addressed most of them. 2 keepers gone, with 2 better(?) replacements, a backup RB in Lamptey, a new LB in Kemper. A question mark remains over CM although Alameyhu seems to have jumped ahead of Morgan.
If the club wants Kolli out, I'm not convinced about the backups, especially if we intend to play 4-4-2. Lloyd seems like a L1 player, Obikwu, so far, is a mirage and is Bennie really a striker.
