We had one here on LFW last WC...I drew Argentina!
This will be happening again, going live on Monday morning. You'll have Monday and Tuesday to sign up on the thread, then we'll do a draw on Wednesday morning. I'll shout prizes from the club shop - treat yourself to some new kit when it's out.
Without starting another WC thread, anyone have any thoughts on an outside bet?
I'm in Morocco now and they're typically mad for it in terms of their chances. Would be an ask for course but I'd be happy for them if they did achieve it, and the odds look a bit generous to me - around 66/1 to win outright with teams like Norway, Colombia and Japan ahead of them; and 10/1.to reach the semis, with Uruguay and the USA ahead as well as those others. Some of that may be group/path permutations, granted, which I can't be bothered to look into.
I know there was the Afcon final situation, and it's probably the heat, but they look like a reasonable £10 bet to make it interesting.

Take a look at all the winners and ask yourself how likely it is to be won by a team that's never even appeared in the final before. For me, even 100-1 is wasting money.

I work with posh people in Bucks. No sweepstake as soccer/footy is not a thing. If I started one they’d all want USA because the young ones here pronounce vase as vayse and route as rout. Does my nut in.

Fair point but for an outside bet I wouldn't say being in the final before is everything. By that stage there are all kinds of factors.
Well, only eight teams have ever won it, Uruguay have no chance and Italy didn't qualify, so it's going to be one of Argentina, Brazil, England, France, Germany and Spain.
60-1 on any new team winning might be a fun bet but even that's a stretch. Last time it happened was Spain in 2010, but they had won the Euros in 2008 and were favourites.
