Think we need a designated thread for general World Cup 2026 chat. There only seem to be the England and sweepstake ones so far.

I believe that my part of the map has the largest Cape Verdean community outside of the archipelago itself. A long history of emigration to the region due to New Bedford, Nantucket whalers and their supply stations in the aforementioned cape and the Azores. This, combined with a large Brazilian presence, let alone the actual Portuguese from Iberia, make up a sizeable percentage of my neighbours. Brockton (the City of Champions),about 25 miles south of me, had big World cup viewing parties for the Cabo's, unfortunately all three previous matches led to widespread rioting which resulted in a number of yesterdays planned get togethers being scratched and heavy policing including a National Guard unit deployed. I watched the game in the Tam, a downtown (dive) bar, with a few middle-aged English tourists who'd googled 'edgy' drinking establishments and ended up on the bar stools beside me, we had two Cape Verdeans and their Brazilian mate alongside us who generated more atmosphere between them than an away fixture at Highbury. Anyway, the CV's informed me things had got so out of hand in Brockton that they'd imposed a ban on alcohol sales after 9.30pm and a citywide curfew between 10pm and 5am this morning.
As for the game, extraordinary but why would we be overly surprised, we'd already seen these lads could kick a ball a bit and that goal, well it will be on our tv screens for many a tournament to come. | |

Fantastic effort by Capo Verde. Argentina yet again playing minnows after Jordan, Austria and Algeria. Just need to beat the mighty Egypt to be in the semi finals. Seems fair. |

Colombia look very dangerous and Diaz is playing even better now than his Liverpool days .
Very dissapointed in Ghana last night they were so sloppy and had no urgency unlike Cape Verde so they went out.
My dream of winning the LFW World Cup Sweepstake went home with Ghana very meekly.
Argentina have got multiple calls in their favour so far IMO including Messi avoiding thick yellow maybe red card it sure looks like they might be getting help. |  | | |

I thought we were superb first half, pressed them all over the park. If only Oluwaseyi had taken that chance! I said to my mate it won’t last and sure enough we tired and Morocco’s quality on the break shone through.
