We have had players in the recent past that have been signed and for whatever reason don't really surface or just move on. Remember the loan signing of Mlakar from Brighton and the Danish lad Ramkilde to name a couple. The one we really want to see push on this season is Kwame Poku as he was seen as a big deal when we got him, but he had been hampered by injury problems. Obikwu never really heard anything about him before he was signed in January and because we have never seen him in a QPR shirt in a competitive match I tend to think it is worth focusing on players we know about that have featured for us, until I see Obikwu actually play I will pass judgement on whether he is a dud or not.
Mlakar was just a terrible footballer. At least when he played for us. He’s gone on to do okay in the Croatian league but he didn’t seem to adapt to playing in the Championship at all so no mystery there.

I've no idea who Obikwu is but i Sliced off the tip of my left big toe when opening an ikea box upside down which contained a kitchen toughened glass shelf.
Luckily I wasn't one of those mutated sub atomic freaks that stalk the earth who have an index toe longer than the big toe, otherwise that would have been decapitated also.
All three of my wives past and present had/have an index toe longer than their big toe. Thus i consider them worthy of a place alongside those oddities and curios you seen in David Lynchesq east london Victorian freak shows . Such as those boneless parasitic conjoined twins that float in a kilner jar of formaldehyde.
If it pleases the court, consider this.. is it not beyond the realms of possibility that the same fate befell Obikwu ?, for example removing a Dunelm spice rack from it's packaging or a pair of B&Q chamfered skirting boards from it's housing?

Surely payers can be dud signings without necessarily being dud players (or dud people).
If a player has been signed for the first team and makes less than, say, 10 first team appearances while fully fit in their first season then they probably need to really step it up the second season.
If not - for whatever reason - they count as a dud signing in my book, almost whatever their natural ability. There is a thin line between being unlucky with a succession of injuries and there being a more systemic problem, or simply not having the sheer toughness to survive a very athletic contact sport. It doesn't make them morally deficient or in anyway to blame, but it can make them a bad investment.
We are not there yet with the Coventry lad, or Poku. But by the same token they do at some point actually have to play.

Does make you wonder when they say that you have to see players on the pitch before you can judge them because it was a mystery what they actually saw at that point in his career.

I literally said in the bit you quoted that he’s gone on to do okay later in his career. But when you get someone on loan you’re not wanting potential you’re wanting immediate impact and as LBlock said he didn’t even look like a footballer at that stage.
That’s just my opinion if you can remember him doing better then that’s another perspective.

I didn’t speak to Obikwu he just didn’t look obviously injured eg not on crutches etc, and looked happy enough - nothing to suggest he’d just had a big injury. Kolli I asked him directly if he was injured he said he’s okay and he’ll be back next week.
