You publishing or using powers of deduction?!

SO who are we looking to finish above? So at the moment it's 23 other teams - has to be the aim / dream. I get that.

Now boil it down to the clubs you'd think we should finish above:-
Blackburn, Bolton, Cardiff, Charlton, Lincoln, Pompey..... then you're getting into territory of West Brom, Stoke and maybe PNE? Thats 9 clubs making you around 15th.
I'd say at least 2 or 3 of those clubs listed above will have far better seasons than you'd expect so that narrows your cohort field down a fair bit and we're in my favourite zone of looking over the shoulder and the sky could fall in at any second.

The Yin to that Yang is it's just as easy for any of the clubs you'd expect to pi$$ it have a nightmare a lah Leicester and to a certain extend Blades and N'arich last season. Plus we could actually stay injury free, fit, have defenders wanting to die for three points and Obikwu have a breakout season with 15 goals by Christmas..... (the bar opened two hours ago and the booze is free).

I hope the optimistic view is correct but we are a club that continues to circle the drain under this ownership and I really don't see much has changed over the summer to convince people we're going to push on and trouble the right half of the table. I'll re-state -- I of course HOPE we trouble the play offs but I just cannot see it.

I want us to get into the play-offs, obviously, but I just don't think we currently have the strength in depth we need for a 46 plus league season. There will definitely be injuries and possibly also suspensions, plus I am still haunted by the parts of last season when everyone appeared to be out of form simultaneously.

I am desperate to be proven wrong!

Sorry, missed this.

I think we should progress noticeably this season for all the reasons Clive (and others have outlined). Finishing similar to last year would be a failure, and if we do that without a big sale or two in next 12 months, it’ll be a very poor reflection on Nourry. But I think we have the squad to progress, certainly the first team. He’s spent a lot of money by our standards, but the squad is certainly much better, so I think we will move from on our perennial 15th/16th to 9th-12th somewhere.

Kolli? I like him. I think it’s the club who are more at fault here. I think he has the talent to be a success at Championship level. He’s a good finisher with a good first touch. That is a lot of the battle for an attacking player at this level. He’d be on the bench for me every week and coming on every week too. He’s one of our own. He’s come through our academy. He has effectively cost us very little. If he has one good season at his age (say 8 goals, 5-10 assists), he’ll be worth a big wedge.

For a player trading club, for a club desperately trying to promote a pathway from the youth set up to the first team, who is investing in Cat 1 status, has a new training ground, and is trying to attract talent at 8-15yrs old, Kolli should absolutely be your poster boy. Even more so QPR being based in an ethnically diverse area of the UK. He should be “the” guy in all the marketing material.

For two seasons they have tried to force him out on loan, and made him train with the kids. But he wants to play for QPR. He’s a QPR fan. He wants to make it here. Yes, his dad is a pain in the backside, his family’s social media stuff is unhelpful, and Kolli hasn’t done himself any favours with the odd bit of disobedient behaviour. But he’s young. You are going to get this with young talent coming through an academy. The leadership of the club needs to be able to handle and harness it. Not let its ego get in the way of what’s best for QPR and take the line of “if you won’t do exactly what we say, you won’t play and we’ll get rid of you.” That is not in the best interest of the club. It is in the best interests of insecure leadership.

From what I have heard he’s liked, his attitude in training and around the club is fine. He’s obviously nowhere near the talent of a Bowles or Taarabt, but his behaviour is nowhere near as disobedient or bad as theirs was. Can you imagine how the club’s leadership would have handled them? We’d have missed out on our best player in our history, and never had that promotion season under Warnock. I am not saying Kolli is or will ever be that influential, but it seems utterly bonkers to me we aren’t embracing him, giving him game time and making him the face of marketing collateral in the local area. He is miles better technically than Lloyd and Bennie, and probably Obikwu (harder to judge). I don’t think he starts when everyone is fit, but he’d be on the bench. And everyone won’t be fit through the season, so he can have impact. Feels a big waste how the club are handling the situation.

Excellent post , particularly the points you make about Kolli.

We have been waiting a long time for the club to develop a decent striker in-house. The club needs to bear this in mind.

Kolli and his representatives and the club need to bury their differences and find a way to make this work. It might be five or even ten years before we develop another striker of his calibre.

Come on, do it!

Difficult to predict before the window closes as usual at this time of the year. My concern, amplified by looking at our possible team to face Millwall, is that we don't have enough height, strength and experience in our back 4 having lost Cook and not replaced him, plus having conceded 70 + goals last season. When we face teams who are big like Derby and Wall who will bombard our box with high crosses, FK's and throw-ins, we will need more than Dunne, plus at best Madsen, Varane and Kone to help him back there. Edwards is good but neither him, JCS or Morrison are really big, strong or good enough in the air to stop them. Not sure Akindileni is ready yet. Think we need to find at least 1 huge MF to play CB alongside Dunne against these teams, 2 really with our injury history.

I agree that there isca lack of height and strength in the QPR squad. It doesn't feel me with confidence playing against the many big and physical sides in the Championship.

The defence definitely needs boosting with a more physical and commanding CB because injuries or suspensions to Dunne or Edwards (JCS is a certainty for a long layoff) could lead to a number of dropped points in their absence.

In attack, I wouldn't have minded QPR bringing back Dykes on a free, but he has now joined Millwall. Do QPR have a target in mind before the window closes?

I have gone for 13 -16 as QPR have been cursed with injuries for a number of seasons now and I don't see any reason why this one will be any different.

So far three in four have us top half.

Went 9 - 12, but thats my pessimistic prediction. Think we have a very decent chance of top 8.

This yet again is exactly how I feel. Burned far too many times to get ahead.

We are not allowed nice things!

Promotion in 2011 (Faurlin Gate) ruined what was supposed to be the greatest season in recent memory.

Wembley Play Off (Redknapp, promoted in spite of)

I think we will marginally better but not great. 12th. Think every injury will be absolutely scrutinised if and when they happed and it will lead to a better but equally disappointing season.

Let's.......... Go!

Can I change my prediction to stone last?

Long old season ahead.

Absolutely no bollox in this lot just full of weak tippy tappy Kenneth Hawtry types who will go missing when the muck n nettles are flying. Mbengue is up there with the worst right backs this club has had, and he’s in good company there.
The GK looks like a child and will be pummelled with crosses and high balls after opposition scouts see how weak he is on them.
Vale, Saito, Poku etc are powder puff.
It’ll be a long night for anyone to convince me Kone is really a lad who has just turned 23 years old - he runs like someone at least a decade older with a JCB tyre tied to him.
Today’s substitutions and the fact Millwall were in second gear all game should at least have a few of you top 8 predictors having a head scratch???

Three players at least short of safety I reckon.

Aaaaaaand….. we’re back!!!

No please leave as you had already stated 22 to 24. haha

Yes learning from today we may have better players than most of other teams - are we strong / hard enough to deliver the results to match? I would say 100% no. We need bigger and stronger players to get promoted (not just silky skills).

Millwall are not that good (although finished third last year), love a foul, long ball and crosses to a big unit in the box. Their manager Alex Neill is very canny. Their DoF is a Rangers man Steve Gallen who himself was a limited footballer however has managed to make the most of his career. Why did we let him go again?

Agree with you on Kone. I don't see any progress there. Alfie Lloyd, when he came on, seems to have more about him in an attacking sense.

I'm not quite so pessimistic otherwise. I think there are a few teams who will be equally impotent up front and turgid in midfield.

I think there will be much more of a divide though this season. In previous seasons there hasn't been so much between the top and the bottom and one or two smaller clubs have broken into the big boys League. Can't see that happening this year. Will be the big boys battling for the top eight and 8 or so smaller clubs (including us) fighting to stay up.

You’ve got your camp Carry on actors mixed up . Charles Hawtrey and Kenneth Williams I think 😀.

Not quite as pessimistic as yourself but we do still have a physicality issue . Although Millwall are a big strong side.
Been reading glowing this that and the others about Burrell and Kone all summer.
Made me nervous .
They are relatively inexperienced with so much to learn and improve on . I just think maybe some fans are expecting too much from them maybe? Not sure if that’s correct but I do see a lot wrong with both their games, not just today but in general . Thought the same last season but largely kept it to myself.
Hard to really judge (on my part) Burrell when playing out of position too.

I don’t know . Just not sure.
Kone looked slow and heavy again but also very hard to win the physical or aerial battle against those 2 freaks today .

Probably the tallest team we'll play this season.

Which is why, I think, we tried a couple of near post corners (that didn't work) and then we scored with a 'normal' kind of delivery

We won't be relegated. We finished 11 points above the drop last season whilst experiencing both an horrendous injury record and our usual inconsistent form.

I don't see the league being stronger than last season, Spam might replace Coventry as runaway leaders. I thought Boro' and Wrexham played pretty well on Friday night so there will be strong teams but we did beat Coventry last season.

Can't see us troubling the top 6 but after that who knows. We are in a better position than we were a year ago.

There should be a separate category for 16th or 15th/16th, surely! I'm heartened, or astonished, I can't decide which, by the poll so far. I tried to vote top halfbut my thumb, shaking as I resisted, was drawn powerfully to 13th to 16th. I think this might be a me problem.
Hopefully we get better at penalties.

Over the last 16 Championship seasons, these were the average points needed to finish...
1st 94
6th 74
8th 69
21st 48

QPR have been in the Championship in 13 of those 16 seasons and averaged a finishing total just over 61 points, with the highest being 88 in 20210/11 and 80 in 2013/14.

Since 2015/16, the season after our second relegation, our highest points total has been 68.

If we keep making, on the face of it, decent signings and IF we do have a miraculous run of fitness then.............. wait for it....... we might be fine!

The vibes are there's another couple to come - that bodes well.

Certainly need a few more dogs of war, preferably in CM, and I'd like to see a RB soon as.
The Kolli Bridge appears to be finally burned so if/when he goes another forward with fully functioning body parts and a quiet Father will be needed.

Just listened to the NTT20 Podcast - they put us 15th, one of them had us as relegation candidates but then saw the signings and decided against it.
Jeff Stelling did a Champ Talksport prediction, has us at 22nd
Matt SB on YouTube has us 20th

Two players in every position dmm. Tariq Lamptey and one other.

I think those predicting a low finish for us are simply basing it on our end of season form, 2 points from a possible 18.
