Start that game with the right 11 and you get something out of it and more importantly, you put down a marker of serious progression.
What we ended up with was two extra injuries and very little contribution before the injuries. You have to ask what was the point when we played so well the other night and could have continued with that momentum.
I get the rotation argument but these are professional athletes and I’m sure they would prefer to play than sitting on the bench. Watching Burrell make that point was particularly galling on reflection. If I was him, I’d be seriously pissed at not starting.
Our over protection not only killed our opportunity, it proactively injured two more players and I’m not convinced that was the coach’s plan. He seemingly wants to win every game, as we do. Looking forward to hearing what he has to say because at some point the cracks will start to show again and we could do without that shit again. |

That was exactly our approach last season: Burrell was done at Christmas and god knows how many others lost to long term injury. The sport is so much more physically demanding now. Personally I think we are managing it v well: Madsen looked a bit brighter today, we are getting a run of games out of JCS because we are managing him well. Those who want 90 mins out of Burrell, Lamptey and Kamara would prob be among the first to get angry when one picked up a serious injury | | | |

Disagree. Thought Saito did well today. Looks stronger and more confident than last season. Vale was better than he was on Wednesday but yes long term, would like to see Madsen ahead of him.
Kone starting was understandable after Burrell put in a hell of a shift on Wednesday. He was poor. I doubt that wasn't noticed by Stephan and I'd be surprised if he starts many more games in coming week assuming his injury isn't too bad. Pace is essential to this team and Kone is probably our slowest outfield player. The guy desperately needs a goal but he'll have to try and grab one off the bench. |
Yes agree! Normally Managers start a big game with pretty much what they think is their best team and then make subs as needed. Today JS seemed to start with a number of our best on the Bench, and 3 of them Madsen, Kamara and Lampty didn't get on until about 3/4 of the game was done. I think he should have started with them and Burrell, and subbed them off when hopefully and not unrealistically, as the last 20 odd minutes showed, when we could have had the game won. | | | |

And by resting Burrell and Madsen and Kamara, the players that came in to protect these players from getting injured,got injured themselves - ie Kone and Chair.
Hence why i totally agree.
It didnt work at all because two other players went off injured and we lost a game that with the right starting eleven we could easily win.
The starting team was a lot weaker than against Cardiff against tougher opposition. And because of that we lost. I saw the team and was not confident. We literally said we are likely to lose this so lets not lose our best players.
Players can get injured at any time they on the pitch but the very fact we had two decent players going off injured anyhow completely destroys the point of resting other players. The rested players picked up injuries.

I think Brough just know how to edge these types of games and we haven’t got there yet. Lots of professional fouls and all the shithousing we don’t do.
Had we started with the first choice 11, I think it might have been different - but we didn’t. Close game based on the second half.

Kamara and Lamptey only joined us because they had barely played any football and had injury issues (major ones in Lamptey case). Madsen doesn’t look fit. We can’t moan about injuries last season and then play these lot back to back games in a 46 game season. It would be bloody stupid. Need to get to the 3 week international break. Do you think Stephan should be Mystic Meg? How was he supposed to guess that Kone and Chair would get injured? The conclusion that because we got other injuries from players who were rested means we shouldn’t rest people doesn’t make any sense whatsoever.
You rest people because they are more likely to get injured if they get overplayed or if they haven’t had a slow return into the team after injury. But it doesn’t mean that you can’t get injured anyway, of course not.
And to say we could’ve easily won against a team we lost 4-0 to last season with just playing the same players as against Cardiff again is bonkers.
