Great report, not too sure the lack of injury time killed us too much, but this was a massive improvement against Boro, who yet again have sold their best player/s but still look like a strong team.

Good report, very much agree with this.
1) Unlike some on the match thread, I agree that we were lucky to get to HT only one down.
2) Vale's performance was much improved, especially in the second half and especially when he moved to the right.
3) Not that it matters, but I think the assist for their goal was actually an attempted shot. Thought it at the time and have viewed it several times from the reverse angle. It's the way he addresses the ball and hits it. What does anyone else think? |  | | |

Fine report . I think Alfie Lloyd needs to be thrown into the mix for striking options.

It was indeed a shot but it highlighted how a £10 million striker kept on the move and arrived at just the right moment to tap in an easy goal from a mis-kick. Our strikers would have been on their heels and watch the ball flash across the goal. We saw that at the end of the Cardiff game when Chair scuffed his chance but our forward had stopped running. If he had kept going he would have had an easy tap in. Too many players stop to watch where the ball is going instead of following in.
As far as I know Lankshear has scored 7 so far as he got a couple in the League cup so he is still averaging a goal a game. As I said before in another thread, it is infuriating we have lost four in a row at home to Boro. Even Man United and Liverpool in their years of dominance couldn't do that to us. Another annoying stat is it is Middlesbrough's first away win since March, when of course we were the victims again. I mean they have been so dodgy in their travels since March that even Blackburn beat them the other week. |  | | |

Thanks Tom - Great write up on a frustrating afternoon.
I was a little disappointed with our midfield selection especially Vale in the middle of the park and Chair in the ten and thought we would have gone with a bit more bite. That said the second half was much better and thought we deserved a point.
Never mind we're not going to win them all. Can the boys now react and bounce back with two tricky away games in four days. I would be over the moon with 4 points.
Just seen we have sold out Wednesday night. 8.00pm kick off, school night, arse end of South London, live on Sky........Pound for pound the best supporters in the league. | | | |

We had 12 of them and wasted vast majority.
Apparently, we now have a dedicated set-piece coach, so what gives?

We’d been going with the outswingers most of the game until a point in the 2nd half where the captain made an executive decision that we should switch to innies.
More proof, if we needed it, that Jimmy Dunne is an excellent leader of this team.
