Seeing as Spaceman lost the last game and won't start the next, and because I have a history with Charlton from last season, I'll start this one.

I can't be at the game - work - so am relying on the TV coverage hoping for a 2-1 win, expecting a 0-0.

If anyone is going, PLEASE do report back on the crowd management and any issues.

I just don’t see how it’s luck, not for 2 and a bit seasons straight. Nor do I think it’s the right way to think about it as a club.

We choose who to sign. We choose our physio/medical staff. We decide our pre-season, and fitness approach. In isolation there might be bad luck, but not over 2 and a bit seasons.

And I’m very aware of we often choose to shop in the damaged goods section in the hope of finding some great value. But it’s still a choice.

In isolation, btw, I still think Lamptey was a gamble worth taking. More concerned with Chair, Kone, Saito, Poku (and, of course, Dembele) being out already, and Kolli (if you believe the club).

Are Saito and Poku injured or just being rested? I haven’t seen anything saying they are?

As for that half, I think we’ve been decent. Some lovely build up play and excellent patterns.

We just seem to run out of ideas in the final 3rd. Adamson isn’t offering the overlap much so Vale is cutting back inside or playing in back for a cross from deep, which their centre halves are eating up. On the left Lamptey looked threatening but couldn’t quite get it under control when it mattered, and Smyth is also cutting back inside to cross which is playing to their strengths. Burrell and Lloyd are not great aerially.

It’s all good until we get to the box and then it stalls.

And whilst we’ve controlled the ball, we are getting caught on the break a fair bit. Fundamentally they’ve had the best chance and a goal disallowed that was questionable.

Game is still there for us to win. Maybe give Scarlett a go from the bench?

Unfortunately he’s not on the bench. Only Scarlett and Obikwu. Unless we put Mbengue at RB and pushed Adamson forward which I think we’ve done before???

Kamara and Madsen both looking good in midfield but they’re both playing too deep which leaves a big gap between them and the strikers which I think is a big factor in our inability to create. Madsen needs to be much further forward Imho

I was just about to write the same thing. Despite having 2 up top they both look very isolated.

This is the type of game where Kone would have Chair or Vale running beyond him. Charlton are deep negating the pace of Burrell and Lloyd. Its all a bit flat and Charlton look more dangerous.

Controlled the first half but we need better penetration.
Vale was close twice and Burrell had a good effort as well. Campbell’s goal for Charlton looked just offside to me when it was disallowed.

A few players have been quiet. Smyth in particular — most of our attacks have gone down the right and he’s on the left. Lloyd has been quiet too and Madsen hasn’t really been influential yet.

Kamara, Dunne and Edwards have played well. Vale needs to improve his crossing.

Hope Lamptey isn’t seriously injured.

Now we’re attacking the QPR end, let’s lift in the second half and get some goals.

Not convinced by Vale out wide. Smyth hasn't been great either but I believe he can come good. I'd be tempted to go with Burrell and Smyth wide with Lloyd as a lone cf.

Smyth hardly saw the ball!

We usually favour one side when attacking. If Chair plays we usually attack more down the left, tonight it’s the right. It’s almost worth dropping one wide player and sticking another in the middle.

The wide player occasionally swapping sides.

Both rested from the squad at the same time as when Chair (and Dembele) are out injured, and we have to put young Scarlett on the bench with no other wide options??

I know we are rotating (and need to) but I’d suggest they’d be on the bench if they were fit but having their minutes managed.
