Not convinced by Vale out wide. Smyth hasn't been great either but I believe he can come good. I'd be tempted to go with Burrell and Smyth wide with Lloyd as a lone cf. |  | | |

That was a really strange half... again we dominate a game... and go in half time very luck not to be one down....
After getting through the first 10 mins.. we spend the next 30 mins camped in their half... to cede the last 5mins again...
Seems JS got booked...
Lamptey going off is a real blow he was head and shoulders the best player on the field...
Lot of decent performances especially in midfield... but again we look toothless

How unlucky are we with injuries. I hope, given how lamptey doesn't look too distraught that they are just being massively cautious to protect him, given his injury history, rather than this being him for a few months |
I just don’t see how it’s luck, not for 2 and a bit seasons straight. Nor do I think it’s the right way to think about it as a club.
We choose who to sign. We choose our physio/medical staff. We decide our pre-season, and fitness approach. In isolation there might be bad luck, but not over 2 and a bit seasons.
And I’m very aware of we often choose to shop in the damaged goods section in the hope of finding some great value. But it’s still a choice.
In isolation, btw, I still think Lamptey was a gamble worth taking. More concerned with Chair, Kone, Saito, Poku (and, of course, Dembele) being out already, and Kolli (if you believe the club). |  | | |

Kamara and Madsen both looking good in midfield but they’re both playing too deep which leaves a big gap between them and the strikers which I think is a big factor in our inability to create. Madsen needs to be much further forward Imho | |

Adamson keeps charging up the line with the ball, Vale just stands there instead of going infield and taking the full back and Adamson who looks very quick has to stop and go back.. driving me mad,
Smyth has been very quiet.
Kamara is a joy, never thought he would become my new favorite player.. he is so good at losing his man without touching the ball.. makes it look effortless. But would like to see him or Madsen start imposing themselves more on creating chances.. or getting in shooting positions. |  | | |

As for that half, I think we’ve been decent. Some lovely build up play and excellent patterns.
We just seem to run out of ideas in the final 3rd. Adamson isn’t offering the overlap much so Vale is cutting back inside or playing in back for a cross from deep, which their centre halves are eating up. On the left Lamptey looked threatening but couldn’t quite get it under control when it mattered, and Smyth is also cutting back inside to cross which is playing to their strengths. Burrell and Lloyd are not great aerially.
It’s all good until we get to the box and then it stalls.
And whilst we’ve controlled the ball, we are getting caught on the break a fair bit. Fundamentally they’ve had the best chance and a goal disallowed that was questionable.
Game is still there for us to win. Maybe give Scarlett a go from the bench? | | | |
