QPR and injuries 15:48 - Sep 9 with 29441 viewsthemodfather

why do we get so many? is it basic unfitness? poor training? last season the pitch didn't help but seems ok this time.
why do we sign so many will dodgy fitness records? and are our medicals doing their job?
chair was out for near all of last season and out already . if we get a fit squad we could have a real go at a top 8.

QPR and injuries on 19:39 - Sep 11 by BrazilNutR

just recieved the "R's ready for clash at The Hawthorns" email regarding tomorrow's game, and the 3 poster boys are Koki, Lamptey, and JCS... which suggests they are all fit and ready. Could Lamptey be fit to play afterall?

Poster boys without Ronnie - madness. This club can’t even get the basics right.

Hoping it was all a big trick. Lamptey was given the first half hour and was always planned he would come off, and told to make it look like an injury to fool WBA, likewise with Jimmy...

I think the over-training is the biggest thing. They are so fine-tuned nowadays that they are on the brink of of injury the whole time. I would like to see the state of some of them when they get into their 40’s and 50’s. The is a lot of talk about heading the ball and potential links to dementia. I think the physical toll will be far greater.

I'd agree with that, many top athletes carry some albeit minor injuries constantly.

Just seen West Ham lose a player in the first half, not that they would notice given their bench.

Pretty much the whole of the Championship is moaning about injuries and player availability at the moment. I'm not saying there is not a problem at Rangers its just difficult to know for sure that its the current regimes mishandling of it that is to blame. Using the last couple of years record as a yard stick is useful but not concrete given the early fixture congestion and how it is also affecting other clubs.

The pressing game has led to far more sprints running, turning etc. That will be a factor. As is the pace of the game which has been increased with these new rules.

I think we are also. seeing a lot of recurring injuries and that is because when you do that pull the muscle does not grow back the same it has scar tissue and that is weaker. So extra strain plus scar tissue is definitely a factor especially when these guys are so uber fit. I think that is absolutely the case with Chair and his calf and with some of the hamstring injuries. Add the semi artificial pitches, modern equipment. I dont think anyone has the answer as the game is constantly evolving and its just constant experimentation

I’d disagree with this. As much as it is nice to have injury information this would be a benefit to the opposition, WBA would have a significant advantage, for example, knowing if Dunne is playing tomorrow and to a lesser extent other players. The Championship is tight and just a few percentage points to your opponents can make a difference over time.

The more long-term injuries I think it is absolutely fair and necessary to update the fans but let’s keep it as it is generally.

Or they could have just watched the last game, seen him limp off with what is most likely a muscle injury and make an accurate assumption that he won’t play in 3 days.

I get what you’re saying if it’s a small knock and a player may miss 1 game or might be ok, or a player is coming back from injury and they don’t want opponents to know exactly when, but it’s ridiculous hiding the length of time out when the player is clearly not going to play.

So clearly Ben Williams’s big review / plans in the summer have gone out the window and we are 6 games in. He oversees all of this and somehow he keeps his job. If we keep doing the same thing we will continue to have players breaking down. I keep hearing that Williams is the person why Kolli is not playing. Not sure why a fitness guy has so much influence on squad selection. We have an injury crisis and our best finisher has been exiled. He needs match fitness. He will only get that playing. He’s a better player than Lloyd for example who just never seems to score.

I thought Dunne had got a bang on his leg when he was up for a corner near the end of the 1st half. Tried to run it off 2nd but it was too bad. Hope it was just a bad knock and he's back soon. We don't have adequate huge CB cover for him for when we face teams that will sling high crosses in at every opportunity.

Of course they can watch the match but why give them the advantage of a definitive answer as to whether Dunne is now fit enough to play, same goes for other such as Saito and Poku? it’s a small advantage not to tell the opposition but without doubt it helps if you know for sure who is fit to play and who isn’t. Teams will have extensive analysts which can work with individual players to show their direct opponents strengths and weaknesses, for the sake of us knowing let’s not give away this advantage.

I do agree on being fair to the fans and giving a length of time out, although I wonder how easy that is to really assess, recovery times must be vary a lot and often setbacks in training, but a rough idea should be given.

And Lampety.

Known to be injured:
Dembele
Kemper
Chair
Kone
Saito
Lampety
Dunne
Kolli (if you believe the club…)

Unknown but not in the squad:
Poku

Hopefully some of these 9 are available to play on Sat.

Looks from media footage that 3 of those 9 should be available.

I reckon our best injured 11 would beat any other teams best injured 11 so that’s something.

Is it though? You can talk about improved performances until the cows come home - and I accept we HAVE played better this season - but the only stat that really matters is the result. So Let’s take a look. This season 0-0 v Charlton. Last season 0-0 v Charlton. This season lost to Boro. Last season lost to Boro. This season won at Blackburn. Last season won at Blackburn. This season drew 0-0 v Bolton. Last season drew 0-0 with Oxford This season won at home v Cardiff. Last season won at home v SW. This season won 3-1 at Portsmouth. last season drew 1-1 at Portsmouth. So we are the grand total of TWO POINTS better off than last season

If we got an extra two points every six games that would be fifteen over the campaign. Last season that gets you level on points with Hull.

Along with the possibility of "over-training", you can add the extra physical 30ish minutes that players endure in their pre match "warm up" & post match "warm down".

I'm sure there are many scientific reasons why this was introduced, but I'm sure there are far too many injuries picked up by players during these periods.

I also heard that Ben Williams is responsible for the current climate crisis, the country's deficit and why the political right in the UK are so bloody angry all the time..

There is some proper nonsense on this site

You're saying that people suggesting that the guy responsible for fitness may be culpable for an injury crisis for the third season in a row is "proper nonsense"?
