why do we get so many? is it basic unfitness? poor training? last season the pitch didn't help but seems ok this time. why do we sign so many will dodgy fitness records? and are our medicals doing their job? chair was out for near all of last season and out already . if we get a fit squad we could have a real go at a top 8.

Do we, though? I thought so too watching us against Portsmouth and Bolton (two very poor teams it seems) but here we are in round six and...
- We're without Kemper, Dunne and Dembele with contact injuries. - Saito, Poku, Chair, Lamptey, Kone all sidelined with the usual collection of "not quite sure, couple of weeks, assess" muscle complaints. - We've got a good hour in us, and then we hit the wall (Cardiff, Charlton) - We've got a whole load of Cirkin, Lamptey, Kone, Poku, JCS types we're having to minute manager, and they're mostly breaking down anyway. - We're collecting injuries at a rate of two a game, despite rotating the squad more than we have before (for which the manager is getting stick). - We're routinely having to make 3/4 subs at the same time because even the usually fit and available like Dunne and Mbengue are struggling.
We're now a Burrell or JCS injury away from having a real issue, just a couple of weeks after we were talking about what amazing depth we've got.

We shouldn't have loaned out our U21 1st team squad players - Morgan, Bennie, Tylon Smith, Pearman, Sanyalou. We're going to be putting kids in like Scarlett, Akendilini and Sutton who are below the aforementioned in the pecking order.
Another consideration. You keep those U21 players around and you can have a better stab at the Carabao Cup.
I know it costs money to keep them on all season - maybe just as squad players and not playing until Oct/Nov or March/April when injuries and suspensions hit hard but I am sure that the risk-reward of going further in a Cup and maybe getting into the play-offs would justify the retention of one or two of them.

It’s not good for their development to spend their season on “standby” for injuries…..even if likely at our club. They need to play “League” football and play regularly. Thats the best for them and ultimately qpr.

Agree. If we'd loaned them into deep non-league I'd wonder what the point is, but we've got good loans for our players this summer (mostly) and it was absolutely the right thing to do.

Well I think we are “fitter”. Cardiff was more because we made some changes rather than “hitting” a wall.
We have to make subs for 2 main reasons: 1) players who have had serious injury issues in past and/or have played little football in last season. So, Lamptey, Cirkin, Kamara, Poku, Chair 2) players who got injured mid pre-season and has scuppered their preseason a bit. Also being a bit cautious. Madsen
That’s 6 key players who would be in our 1st XI. So, we’re going to need to make subs. I’d rather do that than lose them for months. I always thought we needed to get to the 3 week international break and we’d be ready to go from there. Unfortunately, it hasn’t worked for Lamptey and Chair for whatever reason.
Having said all that the lack of information and explanation of the injuries is very frustrating. It’s ridiculous and unacceptable. To the point where we all think Poku is injured but nothing has been said but we have to make guesses because the club says nothing.

Are there league stats for team injuries? I know ours seem bad, but are they any worse than other teams in this division?
I don't think there are any published data for injuries.
Recently our club, and I think a few others have been citing (hiding behind!) GDPR as the reason for not publishing injury data.
To my mind that's flimsy. No one is asking for X-rays, a list of medications, or a second opinion. There's no reason why clubs can't be obliged to honestly disclose which players are unavailable and how long they are likely to be out for. In American sports they seem to manage it (and yes I know they don't have GDPR!)
I think it is true that injuries and particularly muscle injuries are a growing problem in the game. Sports science says that muscle injuries are wholly preventable and shouldn't happen, and yet the data shows that they are on the increase despite clubs having better medical facilities and support staffs than ever before.
I think there are a number of factors that might be contributing to this:
1. Should we have a 24 team second tier? 46 games (plus play offs) is a heavy load for clubs competing for a chance at Premier League riches.
2. On top of the 46 game season we have the disruption and additional pressure of the international breaks. If it was up to me only players from top tier clubs could be called up for internationals during the season and the EFL fixtures would continue as normal and be more evenly spread out with fewer three-game weeks (just call me Wolfie!)
3. There's evidence that the switch to five substitutes has led to a faster and more intense game. That sounds great but it puts extra pressure on those outfield players who have to play the whole game at full throttle. Maybe five is the wrong number. Either go back to three subs or just have a free for all with players coming on and off as necessary (not something I want to see!)
4. I think we can look at reviewing transfer windows. In the old days clubs could transfer players throughout most of the season. If clubs were open about which players are going to be unavailable mid season then allowing for short-term loans as cover from PL clubs (who hoard all the young talent anyway) should be an option.
Looking at ourselves. I think we need to ask if we should be putting so much faith in so many players who have iffy injury records. It's a feature of muscle injuries that once you've had one bad one you are greater risk of getting another one.
Overall there needs to be more transparency about injuries. Not just from our club which hasn't done itself any favours with its 'need to know' comms policy, but from the game as a whole. Footballers are expensive assets, they are also people with short careers. Pushing them to breaking point helps no one. The game as a whole should be doing more to address the issue of muscle injuries.

Queens Park Rangers defender Taria Lamptey has reportedly suffered an ACL tear in his left knee. f Facebook • YEN.com.... The 24-year-old right-back was forced off in the 39th minute of QPR's goalless draw against Charlton Athletic. Initial reports from Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio state that the injury is an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear that will require surgery, likely sidelining him for the remainder of the season. un BBC +4 This comes as a massive blow to manager Julien Stéphan, whose side is already navigating a mounting injury crisis with key players Ilias Chair, Richard Kone, Koki Saito, and center-back Jimmy Dunne also picking up recent knocks.
This does look like AI generated bollox - hopefully!!!!!
If true it’s hardly surprising and can’t say I’m shocked.

The current position (I know only six games in) would suggest they are outperforming last seasons efforts and the teams they played so far. So comparatively it backs up that they are fitter or being better managed. Either way its an improvement.
Maybe a cheeky dig but it feels like its another way of knocking the current 'regime' running the club.

We have bought a lot of players with obvious pre-existing fitness and injury issues. You reap what you sow.
I'd love to know if we even bother insuring half of them. I'd guess they are either uninsureable or the cover would be so expensive we give it a miss and just take our chances.
The idiot commentators on Sky last night did mention the new 5-second rules have really sped the game up and the ball was live and in play 20% more this season. They then suggested this would cause more fatigue, injury and breakdown. You'd think we couldn't be any worse than last year but who knows, maybe we can?

Are you considering dropping the “if there’s nothing wrong with them then they’d be playing elsewhere” rhetoric??
Best ability is availability….. I’m boring I know.
I was, and remain, concerned we’d struggle through the dark winter months without gnarly, experienced dogs of war in a few key positions. The table means absolutely jack at the moment but we’re losing key players before the fruit from the Harvest Festival has even started rotting. That has to be a concern. One man it should concern is the main man himself - Ruben. He should be banging down doors and asking why, yet again, £x’s of his money is not justifying the outlay. He should be demanding an answer as to what the sports and science department are doing to address an issue that is now undeniably there to see. Who persuaded him to sign off on a load of unfit and injury prone players and what was their justification? WTF are they doing?
I do feel JS is getting exasperated with it all as well. It’s quite exciting to see flashes of what could be if he has the 8 key men all available with 3 to 6 rotating around that but I still think a slogger is needed down the spine. Sadly it seems yet again he’s unlikely to have a fit squad at any time again this season.

No. I'm just going to point at Lamptey sitting down last night. If he wasn't like that, he wouldn't be here.

The referee last night paid attention to that five-second rule like many people seem to pay attention to the need to pay to get on the tube.

Stephan looks exhausted in this interview and very pissed about the injuries. Interesting I think Nathan Jones (God bless him) actually nails what most managers in the EFL are thinking about the relation between stupidly packed schedules and increasing injuries. I think he says what most managers think. The people behind these schedules no nothing about football and don't care.
The referee last night paid attention to that five-second rule like many people seem to pay attention to the need to pay to get on the tube.
The unfair Clive he dido the Ted Roger’s fingers in the 90th minute to the Charlton keeper rest of the time nothing from him , same as ignoring the 4 tackles from behind on Burrell and smyth which he deeemed fair , and not worthy of bookings
This is what ChatGPT had to say about it when asked if QPR get.more player injuries than other football clubs -
I think there is enough evidence now to say that Queens Park Rangers F.C. have had a genuine recurring injury-availability problem, rather than it merely feeling that way as a QPR supporter. What is much harder to establish is that QPR definitively suffer more injuries than every other Championship club, because there isn't a good publicly available, standardised league-wide dataset measuring injury-days lost on the same basis. What makes me think there is a QPR-specific issue is the persistence across different managers. Back in 2023, Gareth Ainsworth explicitly said Rangers had lost “too many key players, too many times over too many seasons” and that the club needed to investigate the recurring problem. Last season the problem was again significant enough that Julien Stéphan talked about having to balance training load and intensity because QPR simply couldn't afford another attacking injury. And in May he specifically identified keeping players available throughout the season as something QPR needed to improve. West London Sport West London Sport QPR What's striking is that it's happening again already in 2026/27. Chair and Richard Kone were injured against Middlesbrough five days ago; then against Charlton yesterday QPR lost Tariq Lamptey and Jimmy Dunne. West London Sport describes Rangers as having been “plagued by injuries in the past couple of seasons.” West London Sport +1 There probably isn't one cause. I think it's a combination of squad construction, individual injury histories, workload and bad luck. QPR have repeatedly relied heavily upon players who already have substantial injury histories. Chair, for example, was restricted to only 15 appearances last season and has previously had back, knee and hamstring problems. Jake Clarke-Salter is an even more extreme example: the current injury record has him having missed a huge number of matches since his hip problem began in January 2025. Lamptey has also only recently returned from a long-term knee injury. Yahoo Sports +1 Transfermarkt West London Sport There is then a vicious-circle effect. Injuries reduce the number of available players → the remaining first-choice players have to play more → coaches have fewer opportunities to rotate → fatigue/load increases → injury risk can increase. Stéphan's comments about having to carefully balance training intensity are consistent with exactly that problem. West London Sport Interestingly, QPR clearly have tried to address it. They invested in sports science and medical provision, and in 2021/22 used the Zone7 injury-risk system. Zone7's own case study reported a 33% reduction in injuries per game and a 35% reduction in injury-days lost per game compared with the previous season. So this isn't simply a club that has ignored sports science. Zone7 That makes me reluctant to say “QPR's medical department is poor.” We simply don't have the evidence for that. Some of the injuries are plainly unavoidable — Burrell's injury last season, for example, was a contact injury caused by landing awkwardly rather than a muscle-load problem. BBC But I do think there's a more interesting question behind yours: does QPR's recruitment strategy leave them with an unusually injury-prone squad? My suspicion is that this may explain more of it than the medical department does.
