Seeing the favourite team XI, it made me think about players whose name gave me shivers when I saw them on the team sheet - a mistake never far away. I am sure I have missed some real dross, but here is my starter:

Can everyone stop sticking up for Karl Ready
To be fair he always tried and had beautiful 90s curtains but the day we sold Darren Peacock and decided Karl Ready from the youth team was an adequate replacement was the day we condemned Rangers to the 30 year slump we’re still trying to escape

Nah it’s not his fault he got to play regularly in the Premier League, same as Tony Roberts. Both were average Championship standard playing way above their level, certainly not amongst our worst ever players.
It’s all opinions anyhow: I thought Kevin Brock was utterly useless, especially as he’d started so well when we battered West Ham away but he totally disappeared in games after that.
And Jan Celar is up there with our worst ever forwards: never looked like scoring ever apart from that one glorious Cardiff away game. And Dowie of course. [Post edited 15 Sep 11:41]

Karl Ready won the supporters' Player of The Year award in 1997/98. He'd previously won young player of the year, I believe.
There was no uproar at the time.
He wasn't great. He wasn't even really very good. He backed off players, then fouled them. But he played for QPR in a good (and then bad) PL team and scored an absolute cracker in a win against Arsenal for which I am particularly grateful as I lived in Highbury then, so this is a very unfair reflection on a later career when the entire QPR team cratered.
To place him in a team of QPR duds at centre back ahead of Rehman, Howe, Abbott, Plummer, Morrow, Malcolm, Caesar, etc is a stretch. Damion Stewart and Michael Mancienne both played in poor QPR teams and looked adequate by comparison to who they partnered/replaced. Ready was replacing Darren Peacock. I'm not sure he was worse than Stewart, not really.

Totally agree on Kevin Brock, so rarely had any impact at all on games.
How there is no mention of this thread of Tony Roberts I have no idea. Although usually only a stand-in, this man's blunders cost us so many times. Never had any confidence in him. |  | | |

Harsh on almost all of the players, as well as owner(s) and manager who, for all their myriad disgusting behaviours, still managed to get the club promoted to the Premier League. Chris Wright got us relegated twice at a cost of admin, near total collapse and a merger with Wimbledon in MK and more.
If you think Lumley and Tony Roberts are the two worst QPR goalies then I have Derek Richardson, Sieb Dykstra standing in a fairly long line who'd like to have a word.
It's just a list of average players, apart from Caesar who is the worst centre back I've seen at the top level. But that was a loan, right? And Sinclair Armstrong's goal at Leicester gave me more joy than any single post on LFW so I would welcome him back with rapturous love.
It feels odd kicking honest players who did their best but maybe weren't just good enough, or badly managed, or who one didn't fancy.
Joey Barton was a better midfielder, possibly (at least in his head), than any of these cited but there's no greater disgraceful presence in the QPR shirt than he, who sent shivers down all present more frequently, so I would have Mutch, Goss, Dozzell ahead of him in any team. | | | |

The best footy book ever, 'All Played Out' had a piece on how Agustus could: make his way through the ranks at Arsenal; earn a pro contract; and even represent England at youth level, and yet, be so obviously sh1t!
I wasn't in the UK back then, but like you, knew from a Gooner chum that he was rank. When I'd heard we signed him, I said to my Rfosi mate whom I was travelling with at the time, 'We are f....d!', if he plays. Thankfully we got shot of him, brought Peacock and Tilson in, and started to get out of the mire. |  |
