He was doing OK on the football side, usually top 6 under him, not sure how much better they can hope for, the owners gave him the boot last year |
Spurs finished 17th in the 2024-2025 season and he left 4 months later. Maybe it wasn't down to him or maybe it was, which is why he got the boot, but the rot did start while he was there.
I have read suggestions that his focus (for extra income revenue) was taken away from the footballing side and onto other things such as the concerts, NFL etc.
Either way, it's stark warning that a bigger stadium doesn't guarantee success. Arsenal's success in the first 10 years of the Emirates is pale compared to the last 10 years at Highbury.
What it does cause those is when you are relying on such massive incomes streams, you've got to maintain those streams just to stand still once you've committed to outgoings (especially player contracts/salaries). The minute any of those income streams go away, if they're not replaced with at least like-for-like, you're now going into a deficit.
Anyway, it's funny as fk. I have nothing against Spurs but it just goes to show that all these promises clubs makes about needing a new stadium (with inevitable inflated ticket prices) in order to 'move forward', 'win silverware' etc. can slap them back in the face. |  | | |

It's almost as if changing managers every third of the season over multiple seasons, each and every one of them wanting their own players and systems (spending literally billions in the process) doesn't work!
