I had a parenting thing. I may never forgive my son 😂 I’m glad everyone had a great time. I so rarely miss a home game but my last hat trick remains Chas v WBA. Gutted. Word of warning: teams very often follow big v wins with a damp squib. That’s the next test. Last season Cov followed their demolition of us by losing in the cup to Millwall and only drawing with oxford.
Bare bones.

Excellent summing up of the day Clive. What a game ! If we can get some players back then this season we have a real cha nice of the play offs. If this bandwagon starts rolling then it will take some stopping. Not been so optimistic for years. Stephan and the players stand up and take a bow.

I don't think any of them play violin.

Its a good point Antti. I think we followed our demolition of Leicester with a barely deserved draw at Portsmouth. The 'standards' test now is to 'give Southampton a game' - the result matters less than the performance. On the flip side, our response to what was our worst performance of the season at Birmingham was absolutely outstanding. Cheers Clive, match report matched match.

Brilliant report for an amazing afternoon. They don't come along too often these do they, but when they do.....
I don't generally pay much attention to the payer ratings but I was intrigued to see how Varane would be rated. I thought he was lucky not to have been subbed after giving away possession so easily twice in short succession. I think it was after the 2nd goal Stephan called him over to the touchline presumably to 'have a word.' He looked totally off it to me and have never really seen what he gives to the team.
I'm sure this will draw some ire as I know he has a lot of supporters, but I just don't see it.
Not gonna finish this on a negative though. I was not confident about this game given the growing injury list but Swansea just couldn't live with us. Superb team display and if this contradicts my earlier point about Varane then so be it. Got absolutely soaked and totally loved it.
Yes, JV had a dodgy start to the game but he did improve from then on and gave a steady effective performance.
Fantastic Report Clive. Up there with your very best.
I'm glad you gave such praise to JS who is proving to be a superb manager for us. It was wonderful to see him smiling so match in the post-match interviews after a difficult week for him leading up to the match.
I'm gutted I wasn't there to see it myself as I had tickets for Cheltenham races purchased months ago before the fixtures came out. However it probably contributed to the result, as I manage to miss all our great home performances, including the Leeds game you referenced in the report. Looking forward to watching the full 90 mins on the Club website this afternoon.
See you at the Burnley match.

Looking forward to the Burnley match roll call as I'm finally making my pilgrimage to LR. Been a tough few years where I haven't been able to make it there (used to be an annual thing) so I'm really excited to get a taste of the atmosphere again.

Tremendous stuff from everyone. Boy Kemper has been a revelation. Hard as nails but with some lovely deft touches and flicks too. Took my son and daughter to their first game since the 4-0 thrashing of Leeds. Gonna have to take them every week now

A good repot Clive I share your views on both Vale and Varane performances. Also thought that was Pokus’s best game for us -especially his part in the opener. Dembele looked sharp when he came on and here’s hoping both those are coming back to their best.

What's the biggest room in your house?
Honestly, the forensic analysis of Clive's ratings is getting a bit tiresome. I don't understand why some folk are so bothered. Perhaps the report could include 1 decimal point for greater context? For me, Harvey was a 6.7 so I rounded him up to 7 but I can accept a 6. A 6 for Varane is definitely fair after twice losing possession in dangerous areas early doors. Had one of those gone in (particularly the one Charles "tipped" on to the bar), Clive's report might look very different.

Yeah I find it funny why some people get so wound up about them - but different strokes etc.
Just re-watched the 90 and it really was so impressive... 2 things;
1. If a team doesn't come in with big money for Edwards in Jan, they're obviously not watching much football.
2. This could be a huge result and performance for the squad in general. Pre match a lot of talk was about who isn't available, and how JS is looking down about his selection options. Well this is what can be achieved regardless, and I hope we take more of that 'next man up' approach to the future. No point crying over who can't play come kick off, let's use this as evidence that individuals are dispensable!

As you say let's hope we do give Southampton a game as our last visit there was men against boys an absolute horror show. Of course we had a great win on Saturday but so too the Saints scoring three at West Ham so they will also be on a high.
It is probably only me, but I was miffed Kone missed that sitter in the first half and Kolli shooting wide when the goal was gaping at the end as I wanted us to get seven to erase the Coventry drubbing from my memory banks. Guess I'm a greedy so and so never satisfied...

True, but October was seen as a very tough month where we had to prove ourselves. We're four games into it, and we've been superb (for my money) in three of those games. Southampton I don't expect a lot, but if you take four points from Burnley and Lincoln after that then it's a terrific Oct-Nov period.
