He always looked and sounded so well preserved. I once ran a quiz that included facts about a well-known personality. Everyone thought the answer was Margaret Thatcher when I mentioned the unknown person had attended Kesteven High, a girls' school in Grantham - but that school had a mixed kindergarten!

Hesitation, repetition, deviation? sounds like my sex life!...

...maybe not.

RIP Nicholas (or Nickelarse as Arthur Haynes used to call him - much to my chagrin as we share the same forename)

WOW!... the memories are flooding back now...
Sunday afternoons were pretty crap for TV back in the 70s :( But Thunderbirds, the Big Match, the Persuaders and the Sale of the Century made up for all the political and religious programmes.

RIP

Absolute gent and professional.

I spoke to him a few times over the years, old school gentleman.

But you won’t be leaving us empty handed. You’ll be going home to Kettering with that marvellous new hair dryer and £31.

Just A Minute with him, Peter Jones, Clement Freud, Derek Nimmo and the great Kenneth Williams was wonderful.

And still the only tv presenter I know to have openly and legitimately used 'Fluffers' on mainstream tv.
My hat off to you sir.

Not forgetting the weird Anglia knight and fanfare at the beginning.

He hosted Just A Minute for over half of his life which is some achievement

He had great recollections of WW2, made more interesting by his ability for good story telling.

I heard a story that a few years ago, when his popularity had clearly declined he went on stage and when he saw there was only a half dozen people in the audience decided to take them all out to dinner instead of do the show. Superb.

Worked on Just a Minute numerous times, one of my favourite programmes to work on. One of the very few comedy programmes that actually make me laugh, very nice man and his wife is lovely too.

I took part in 'Just a Minute' when he hosted it at a conference. He was wonderful and exactly the bloke that you would expect. I was not wonderful. I thought that I might be good at it, but, I came third and discovered how often I am guilty of repetition. Repetition.

Still listen to Just A Minute - he was amazing and flawless presenter even at 96. He and Paul Merton clearly adored each other.
