What 'is' a football club? It's a veritable Theseus' paradox.
The players change.
The managers change.
The owners change.
The badge (sacrilegiously) can be changed.
The ground/name of the ground can (honourably but still in my view misguidedly) be changed.
The playing style changes.
The divisions changes.
The finances change etc. etc.
In short, everything changes, but 'something' stays the same. That something is us.
We, the fans, don't change, who hug 'our' QPR in our souls and the 'spirit' of the club in our hearts (underdog flair, the old true Loft, the away end scoreboard, 15p checkered programmes, Derek Buxton, Michael Wale, UEFA '77, Goddard and Allen, Highbury/ Wembley '82, passing football, the no. 10 shirt, the ghosts of Bowles, Francis and Givens), burnished by our memories, hopes, ecstacies and tears.

For brevity, in recent times, I have used QPR but absolutely hate myself for doing it.
Queens Park Rangers is such a beautiful name, a name that should always be said in its entirety. Slowly with clear emphasis on each word.
If I gabble it, it comes out in my original Nottin’ ‘ill accent and can sound almost apologetic but admittedly more authentic. Probably less authentic but these days it starts out in Surrey and ends back in Notting Hill (retro style of course).
Best I find to stand in front of a mirror and practice, for hours if necessary, and perfect your own interpretation.
Perhaps the club should insist to all media outlets that the full name should be used in all circumstances and bestow greatness back upon this wonderful establishment. |  | | |

I assume the difference is that those teams are referred to as Preston, West Brom, West Ham and Forest Green because those are places known to most people whereas Queens Park refers to a team in Scotland. The number of people I've met who think Queens Park Rangers is a made up name not knowing Queens Park is an area of London [Post edited 3 Oct 2020 10:47]

Tbf that "Rangers" thing is outdone by Tottenham - I mean "Hotspur" is unique in football (bar a few imitators) and "Spurs" is surely a cooler abbreviation than "R's" (or "Bees" if I'm honest).
"Forest" and "Wednesday" are another pair with a unique ring to them.

I always get an odd reaction from people when I say I support QPR ,especially from people on my native Ireland.
One or two who would be a sectarian persuasion can't get thier head round why southern Irishman could support a football club with the names Queens and Rangers in it.
You're looked upon as a bit of traitor to the cause. Thankfully this is a miniscule minority.

From memory most people just said ‘Rangers’ when I started going in the seventies, which I’ve always preferred.
Also recall motson and Barry Davies always calling us Rangers when commentating, it was only when sky came in that they kept referring to us with the full name, Andy gray especially.
Why? We’re the only rangers in England and it’s not like anyone is daft enough to confuse us with the Scottish lot. |  |
