Yeah, I'd go with him too. The paucity of options for that gong does highlight how poor we've been this season at bringing young players through.

This would be my choice to. Mainly because I can't think of an alternative to Dozzell! EDIT - Willock against Derby for me as goal of the season. [Post edited 20 Apr 2022 10:10]

Leaning back, on the volley should have been in row Z - amazing technique to find the top corner of the net. Gray's was good, but tempered by the lack of challenges/closing down by defence. I could play keepy uppy and smash if nobody comes near me and I am nudging towards 60. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I've gone for Gray v Derby as, even though he's not our player, it is an extraordinary goal. Didn't he say himself it's the best he's ever scored?

Chair's lack of form is one of the reasons we've been in this recession in my opinion. Can't see how he can be player of the year, gone for a significant period with Afcon and been abysmal since being back, albeit picked up significantly the last two games. Has to be Willock for me. All about opinions though. Not sure we've seen enough of anyone to nominate a YPotY. Goal for me is Gray's. The skill, technique, timing and opposition all perfect.

The arguments you make against Chair being nominated as PotY are equally applicable to Willock. Just substitute AFCON for hamstring injury

Not really. One has played, but poorly, and the other hasn't been able to but has been outstanding more often than not, which you cannot say for Chair on the whole this season. Losing Willock has been a big reason for our slide, but that's no fault of his. Simply, of the games they've played this season, who's actually played better? I really can't see how you could argue Chair has played better than Willock. But if you think so we'll have to agree to disagree.

'abysmal' - like a lot of fan language, is just ott. As you say it's about opinions, but I don't think I've ever seen Chair have an 'abysmal' game. Sub-par about the worst he manages, nd never seen a game where he didn't try his nuts off. My vote for Willock though, so totally agree there!

A good debate. First of I would say very few players maintain the same high standards week in, week out and that applies to top players like Lukaku as much as anyone and applies even more so to younger players imo. But there have certainly been times when Willock was way below his best (Stoke and Bournemouth in Dec and the few games before his injury) and our results usually dipped as a consequence. For sure Chair's form was patchy at best in February/March, but he was excellent pre AFCON, so much so that we were worried how we were going to manage without him. I also think he never hides even when things aren't working and seemed genuinely upset with himself. I am delighted with his return to form in the last couple of games.
