| England's New Kits on 14:30 - Sep 15 with 2807 views | Tonto | Away one OK if a little.dull. Home one is awful. I have never understood why our kit is white and BLUE though. The flag of St George is white and RED. Where did the blue come from? But then where did THIS kit's blue come from. Its not even royal blue. | |

In the 70s / 80s, England fans all used union jacks. 66 was before my time, but pics show all union flags. It was almost like the St George's flag had been consigned to history, and the union flag doubled up as the English flag. I never got why, but saw the blue shorts as part of the same thing. Personally I was chuffed we'd won in 66 wearing red. Italia 90 and 92 euros, the StG flag began to seep in, but the big sea change (no idea why) was Euro 96. 95% StG flags, and has been ever since...but the navy shorts and blue trim on shirts remains.

Wasn’t it something to do with violence in football why the Union Jack fell out of favour in football? It was associated with hooliganism so people started adopting the St Georges flag. That’s my memory of it. Even fans from other countries used to fly the Union Jack.

I wouldn't agree with your observation. Yes, some claimed use of the Union Flag, (or Jack, as it was generally called because few, including myself, knew the difference), was a pointer that the person, association displaying it was racist /fascistic, but that was truly overblown nonsense from the flag haters. What those claims did do however was re-educate the average inhabitant of England that they actually had a flag, that the Union whatever, was actually representative of four nations and although a jolly distinctive banner that looked good with your teams name written through it, was not specific when following the national team.

| England's New Kits on 17:42 - Sep 15 with 2370 views | DavieQPR | Thought is was due to the other Home Nations not wanting to lose their national identities and own voting rights at FIFA who were muting at the time of amalgamating us into one block. Remember the fuss about one football Olympics team. | | | |

| And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot
That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles

Honestly, that was a short and brief proposal. Probably similar sized sentiments among some today...oh hang on, not now with the mass tv involvement and everyone barring the cat next door qualifying!

I love that France away shirt that UEFA band at the 2016 Euros… (bottom left)Apparently it’s quite sought after now
| England's New Kits on 19:19 - Sep 15 with 2215 views | charmr | Cameroon game Italia 1990 traipsed all around Naples unofficial sellers looking for a Red and white flag rather then the union one. One seller had one and got a good deal with the help of my little Italian and the local kids. Mr Swindles had an Union Jack with Ladbroke Grove adjourned on it the size of a house. Definitely the start of less Union flags. | | | |

| England's New Kits on 22:51 - Sep 16 with 1709 views | stanistheman | Trust Nike to come up with garbage like the home kit. Does the FA have a say in what the design is? The blue is horrible and not even a colour that is used for English home kits. Couldn't they have at least used red instead? The away kit is ok but no better than that. How long is the contract with Nike. On the plus side, at least QPR had the good sense to dump Nike. | | | |

Do you remember when we had the French onion seller kit, fans were angry with it and Nike said it takes two years to design a kit and get it to market.
