Tyler Roberts 08:46 - Sep 18 with 7402 views | Logman | I can see exactly what the Leeds supporters meant when they said that there is a potential end product there but that they are yet to see it. Every time he gets the ball he seems to be in control but after a neat bit of play it seems to be recycled. I wonder whether we will see him come to light for us.
Tyler Roberts on 08:53 - Sep 18 with 5684 views | NorthantsHoop | It might just be Roberts style of play, but at the moment seems to be giving a sort of lacklustre loanee performance, whereas totally different from Laird who is full on commited. Let's see still working himself into the team.
Tyler Roberts on 08:55 - Sep 18 with 5671 views | dmm | I'm left wondering whether he's fully fit and if he should be playing the main striker role. He looks more of a 10 than a 9 but that would leave him as cover for Willock and Chair. If we had brought in a striker last month I can't think he'd be playing the no 9 role. So there are a few questions to be answered but it's still relatively early days.

He spent most of the second half asking to come off. It took Beale about 20 minutes to take action.

I thought he looked very half arsed. About 10 mins in he got bundled off the ball by one of the Stoke MMA moves and appeared to give zero shits. He seemed to just shrug his way through the rest of the game as far as I could tell. Not impressed. Laird, on the other hand was superb. As was Paal; for a little fella he shows no fear going for high balls with two or three massive Stokies bearing down on him.

Tyler Roberts on 09:44 - Sep 18 with 5391 views | stevec | Wonder if it’s been a bit of a shock, dropping down a league, and finding there’s already two better players in your position. He looks like one of those players who you’ll never actually work out his best position. As it stands, although he’s never a CF, we can use him up front when there’s no monsters in defence, when there’s a Flint then probably not. I thought he was okay v Millwall once he settled into the game but less so today. By the way, Is this the fella with a £4m price tag in a Catch 22 situation?

Yes to the £4m price tag, Steve, but I thought it was contingent on us getting promotion. I hope it's an option loaded on our side and not Leeds.

Tyler Roberts on 10:46 - Sep 18 with 5123 views | Antti_Heinola | Just as a lot of people judged Willock too early, and a lot of people judged Paal after one game, I think while there's some good observations here and he didn't have a fantastic game yesterday, let's remember his fitness has been up and down and he's yet to have a proper run in the side before deciding he's half-ar$ed and can't be bothered.

Tyler Roberts on 12:25 - Sep 18 with 4895 views | FrankRightguard | I found him a bit negative at times yesterday both in possession and in general. Too often he’d drive forward and then look for a pass backwards. When he took that whack he was making take me off eyes at the bench immediately. Was almost like Beale left him on to see if he’d play through it rather than taking the easy out.

"lacklustre loanee performance." ^Does sum up his last few games with us. Theres a touch of Dion Sanderson about him. I get the impression he thinks he's a bit better than he is. A bit of self entitlement that some young people have. I might be being a tad unfair to him but viewing games from my PC monitor it does look a bit like that. He's still young and learning hence his loan spell and i really hope he improves as i think he's a crucial part of our team doing well this season.

Thinking the same thing in our row, seems to do a lot of moaning and hand gesturing, looks like he thinks hes Billy big bo##ox, but hope to be proved wrong.

Scapegoat for what..? We're playing well. Just individually I think he needs to improve.

I quite like him. Yesterday he played a couple of wonderful passes with great vision. He was less effective after his knock, but I don’t think he’s 9. False 9 or not. Dykes wins far more headers and holds it up and lays off better. My issue with Roberts is sometimes he tries to be too clever when the simple pass would be more effective. I suspect when Everyones fit, he may not start. But as I say, he’s young, we have a good coach and I quite like him.

Yep, we're all guilty of hasty judgements. I was slating Tim I, the first hour v Millwall, and Mick Beale has just pointed out that was his first game in adult football for months and and months!
Tyler Roberts on 22:44 - Sep 18 with 3848 views | nix | I was thinking he looks like he's not played a massive amount of football at senior level recently. so he's not a hundred per cent sure of decision making, and not 100% up with the pace. I think it makes a difference when you play almost all the matches and he has hardly played since January this year. The previous ten matches he was involved in Leeds lost seven out of ten of them, which can't be great for his confidence. They included matches against Liverpool 6-0, Man City 7-0 and Arsenal 4-1, soon after which he ruptured his thigh muscle and didn't play. I'd definitely like to reserve judgement until after he's had a run of games and maybe a few wins to get his mojo back.
Tyler Roberts on 22:51 - Sep 18 with 3832 views | stanistheman | Some nice touches and passes but no real direct goal threat or assists. I see him as another creative attacker like Chair and Willock, but without the goals. He is certainly no center forward and not cover for Dykes let alone a replacement. I am wondering where he will fit in if Richards and Amos are back in October. With Iroegbunam also in contention for a starting place competition will be tough.

that was my reading too. I think he seems a bit soft, and maybe they do as well. 'come on lad, it's a bit of pain that's all, nothing to worry about, get over it, play through it, you can do it'
Tyler Roberts on 09:30 - Sep 19 with 3520 views | Wilkinswatercarrier | Based on the performance I can't see where he fits in. He appears so laid back he is almost horizontal at times. He gets knocked off the ball so easily, but doesn't seem to give it back, As others have mentioned once Amos and Richards are fit I dont think he will be a starter, and if Beale switches to a 3 at the back he may find opportunities even more limited. Saying all that, i hope he improves as he is a Ranger for the season, so fingers crossed for the lad.
Tyler Roberts on 09:31 - Sep 19 with 3518 views | slmrstid | I think he's quite decent myself, but he's not a "play on the back line" type striker, as others have said similar to Willock and Chair. Definitely not as good as them, but a better all round player than Dykes but not as physical as him. What we really lack is a fox in the box type who'd look to make runs in behind a back line. Bonne is probably the closest we have to that which is why he gets caught offside so often but then his all round play isn't the strongest.

How on earth can any fan on the touchline know whether a player's knock is too painful or if there is damage that means he should be replaced. Even a coach who knows the player well is taking a calculated risk by ignoring the player's wishes. I remember an innocuous incident in my, very low level, football youth when my foot, in a challenge, rolled of the side of the ball. I was in pain when putting weight on my foot but was told to run it off. An x-ray later showed a crack or chip on a bone, probably what we now know as a metatarsal. Everyone was amazed! Yes, I agree Roberts looks like he has a bit of an attitude but we aren't qualified to judge whether his knock is serious based on that. [Post edited 19 Sep 2022 9:37]

Will be interesting to see if it was a serious injury or not. I remember my lad when he started working with me as a carpenter moaning about splinters in his hand..lol

You're right of course. But he had been easily disposessed a couple times before and just seemed to shrug and moan a bit, rather than look up for it and want to impose himself. He did receive a nasty nibble when turning and it did look sore, and I saw him do the rotating hands sub symbol. But the physio never even came on and the bench ignored him. So I'm reading a lot into it, and of course could be totally wrong...but I just had this feeling at the time they wanted him to play on to prove to himself that he could.
