To be fair, there have been a few good tunes for the Bond movies.
I quite like Carly Simon's 'Nobody Does It Better', just a good song of it's own merit. As a theme tune to a film, Adele's 'Skyfall' was very good given it also worked with the title of film title as was McCartney's 'LALD'. Both absolute belters.
But one of the better films for me was 'OHMSS' with the brilliant theme tune by Louis Armstrong...ohhhh yeaaahh!
'Always In Motion' by John Honney available on amazon.co.uk
I've got David Arnold's CD on re-imagined Bond themes....... totally recommend it for a different slant on things...........Jarvis Cocker singing 'All time high' for example.
You Only Live Twice by Nancy Sinatra. A great song, but also you can't top Bloefelds volcano lair at the end (until Austin Powers). And Connery of course.
Lucky enough to get 2nd row tickets at the Royal Albert Hall for 60 Years of Bond Music. My god although she is 85 Shirley Bassey absolutely smashed Goldfinger and Diamonds Are Forever - sent shivers right through me. Lulu did Man with Golden Gun that she says she hates singing. Don Black came out and talked about writing with John Barry. Celeste, Ella Eyre did a few - Garbage came out and did World is Not Enough - Hans Zimmerman came out and did an instrumental with David Arnold. Only real disappointment was John Grant (who I usually like) did We have all the time in the world and his voice wasnt deep enough. You can catch the whole concert on Amazon Prime.
The Gladys Knight theme is really annoying. It sounds like she says Licence to Kilt and then the backing singer over emphasises kill to cover it up. There are two urban myths as to why she might be saying Kilt. The first being she was religious and/or didn't like singing about killing so changed it. The other weird one is that she was a fan of Sean Connery. I have heard the first story more than once but the second one is new to me
